It is a temporary site designed to engage the community - and based on the overwhelming response to the survey it appears to be working.

Each week I attempt to send an email with a list of what's going on OUTSIDE for that upcoming weekend. You can also look further ahead by visiting the outdoor-only calendar on RoanokeOutside.com. If you know of an event that isn't listed you can either submit it via this calendar or send the details directly to me.

Until the final site is finished I am using a BLOG to compile outdoor news, list of outfitters and stores, gear reviews, and more. You can even see a list outdoor trip ideas.

Again, our goal is to create a site that truly reflects the region and your feedback is crucial. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments.

I had the pleasure of spending a few days last week with Resort Sports Network (RSN), an ESPN affiliate. They were in the Roanoke Region filming a mountain bike video guide. It features trails at Carvins Cove and Douthat State Park, as well as an urban twist on Mill Mountain that follows the rider leaving downtown Roanoke and riding to the top.

The finished piece will air next summer but RoanokeOutside.com will receive an advance copy for use by the end of 2009.

RSN is a national television network that specializes in creating and distributing outdoor content to America's premier resorts, including more than 125 mountain and beach destinations across the country: Aspen, Vail, Lake Tahoe, Park City, Sun Valley, Killington, Mount Snow, Key West, and Myrtle Beach.
