In Search of an Answer: Finding, Knowing & Speaking Your Truth
Are you in search of an answer to the mystery, disconnection or pain in your life? You are not alone. Every human being is carrying inner confusion or wounds that haunt, capture and keep us from being fully in touch with our inner wisdom and peace.

As we go through life we incur wounds and trauma of all kinds: abuse, neglect, injury or accident. If we are not assisted at an early age to process these wounds and deal with the damage that results from them, we carry these "issues" around like baggage. As we continue our lives, limping along dragging our unresolved issues, we accumulate dis-ease and end up getting sick in one way or another. Since we are holistically made our disease may manifest itself psychologically, as depression, anxiety, deep guilt or mental illness; emotionally, as distance, underdevelopment or dysfunction; physically, as addiction and in a variety of illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes, chronic fatigue, ulcers or back pain; and spiritually, as isolation, spiritual homelessness and disconnection from Self, others and the Divine Source.

So, what is the answer? I believe it is found in an inner healing journey of the Soul. Each of us has to get to the point of desire to bring change to our lives, to want to feel better and thus take responsibility for our own healing. This begins with an effort to get to know our Soul Self by doing an investigation into our past and entering into a life long conversation with our Self. There are tools that help us with this journey.

Four basic tools for healing are Journaling, Counseling, Support, and Spiritual Community. By writing down, in a journal, our observations, experiences, thoughts and feelings we uncover the material of our lives and raise our issues to our awareness. Once aware, we can do something with the issues that come up. Counseling and Support, through groups and friendship, offer a safe place to begin to speak our truth, tell our story and process our issues. When others join us in this mutual exchange of real life experiences a caring companionship is developed where we can finally resolve our issues, make amends and let go of past traumatic material. As we heal we can also seek our authentic spiritual path and find a practice that fulfills our need for nourishment, guidance, and a sense of purpose beyond ourselves. It is within an honest, mutual, supportive, trusting and spiritual Community of people that we can come to know and embrace our Selves, move beyond our wounds and tap into an inner sense of peace. Once reconnected with Self, others and the Divine Source, we can live a healthier, happier and more productive life.

If you are somewhere on this journey or wish to start it, come to the "In Search of An Answer" Women's Retreat at the Center of Unlimited Possibilities (CUP) in Spring Lake, Michigan on March 10, 2012. Along with the practitioners at CUP, I will guide the experiential journey of this daylong retreat. It is based on an in-depth look at the themes of my book, Lillie's Redemption, which mirror my thoughts expressed in this article. Come, find some answers and engage in the inner journey of your soul with other women through discussion, personal reflection, workshops with CUP practitioners and group sharing. Experience the care, learn the tools and develop support, friendship and community at this serene and beautiful Center of Unlimited Possibilities! For more retreat information and registration, contact Kari@theunlimitedpossibilities.com or call 616-842-0264.

Blessings and love, Lydia Waring Meyer, author of the novel Lillie's Redemption and director and counselor of La Loba, a spiritual counseling practice in Grand Haven.
