Your Place for Well Being ... November 2011

Something to consider...

Peace.  It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work.  It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.                                                                                         ~Unknown

AmyThe other day I was having an amazing discussion with a colleague of mine, Petra Verwijs (read below to learn more about her); we were sharing stories about our Hospice background and our sense of privilege to have had this experience.  The conversation meandered to the writings of Linda Bos, who wrote extensively about grief, grace and gratitude.  I walked away from my conversation with Petra, convinced of this...as we allow ourselves to flow through and feel grief, let grace hold us tenderly during this process, and flow to the point of connecting with gratitude, we will feel peace.

I invite you to try an experiment this Thanksgiving week (for many, the kick off of the holiday season hustle and bustle).  Each day, take a moment to notice the abundance in your life, those things for which you feel thankful, large and small.  Perhaps, you will even be compelled to write these down on paper.  Review your list, notice how you feel when you bring yourself to this kind of awareness.  Do you feel peace?  A sense of calmness in the midst of a busy day, a busy life?

This may be the beginning of claiming the peace that is available to you.  If you wish to pursue this feeling more, there are several CUP independent practitioners, classes and workshops available to support you in a variety of ways. See below for a sampling of our offerings or check us out on the web www.theunlimitedpossibilities.com

In deep gratitude for your contribution and connection with CUP.

A few months ago I came to CUP looking for some relief from feeling lonesome in my home office. I am a linguist, educator, and academic, spending most of my time in front of a computer. At CUP I have found a wonderful office space, in the midst of the hustle bustle of real life, perfect for productivity and inspiration. It has been all I could have hoped.

The great surprise has been the warm embrace and hospitality of the CUP community, who without hesitation invited me to collaborate and bring my cerebral outlook on life to their interdisciplinary approach for wellbeing. In the next year, I will begin to offer classes on a variety of topics with the goal to integrate curiosity for new learning with one's own life stories and experiences. Among the ideas that are floating around are "Cultural Diversity," "Different Religious Traditions," "Personality Traits," "Cultural and Religious History of Western Michigan," "Astronomy/Cosmology," "Ancient Myths," etc.

I would love to hear about your suggestions. Feel free to e-mail me at psverwijs@gmail.com or call me at 714.393.2273. You are also most welcome to stop in and say "hello." You can find me in Office 3 at CUP.

Warmly,

Petra Verwijs, Ph.D.

Looking back over the course of this year, I notice many changes in my life - changes for which I am truly grateful. Starting with a drastic career change, my sense of peace and balance has increased fourfold. I am thankful for the strength it took to listen to my intuition, leave a steady paycheck behind and start a new business in a not-so-friendly economy. I am happy there were those who told me there was no way to make this new business work on my own, which provided me with the fuel it took to prove them wrong.

I am eternally grateful for the circumstances which lead me to CUP, the icing on the cake that made this transition possible, and for the friendships which have followed. I appreciate the positive energy and warmth that encompasses CUP and the sense of home my clients and I experience here. I also value you taking the time to read this message; it is your support that makes CUP such a wonderful place to just be.

Take a moment to envision what or who you are thankful for in your life, and if possible, share this with someone you love...for this, your heart will thank YOU.

With Warm Regards,
Stephanie

"I find gratitude best done as a practice and, like all good practices, the more I invest in it, the more there is to draw upon when the need arises.  Three things I am immediately grateful for are: I have a beautiful and bright daughter who is interested in making a difference in the world; I have friends whom I love and respect and who feel the same way about me; and I have been given the gift of bringing beauty to people's lives through my design services.  What are your gifts? What three things bring you the feeling of abundance?"

Blessings for a love filled holiday season,
