Rector's notes:

The 2012 Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 29 at 9:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

Nominees for Vestry are:
Doug Beichley for a second three year term
Erik Elving for a second three year term
Ann Readey for a second three year term
Whitney Gee Hosty for a first three year term
Vanessa Thorsten for a partial term ending in January of 2014

The Rector is interested in forming a 7-8 person lunch time serving team for the Kansas City Community Kitchen, a ministry of Episcopal Community Services, at their downtown location on the 4th Monday of each month.  If you are interested in being on the Rector's Team, let me know (click on "Rector's Team" above to email).

We have an older parishioner who no longer dirves who needs a ride to church.  She is near 95th and Mission.  If you are interested in occasionally offering a ride to a parishioner contact the rector (click link for email) or 816.931.2850.

Parishioner Paula Porsch was involved in a very unusual accident that resulted in a severe fracture of one of her cervical vertebra.  While this injury will not result in any permanent paralysis, Paula will have a very extended recovery time.  Clay and the boys will take good care of her; however, a little help with food might be a good thing.  If you would like to help, contact the parish office or 816.268.6513 and we will give you the link to the CareCalendar that has been set up to assist the family.

Heart's for Jim

On February 12 at 5 p.m., the ECW will sponsor a five course pre-Valentine's Day Wine and Hor D'oevre Tasting event remembering Jim McLure. This is a ticketed event with limited space. If you are interested in attending, contact Pat Rudy or the Parish to reserve your ticket. Space is limited, so make your reservations today.  Your donation gift for the ticket (over $20-- we will collect at the event) will be added to the Jim McClure Scholarship Fund for St. Paul's Episcopal Day School. Hillary McCoy will be our wine steward for the evening. Hillary received her sommelier training from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust and studied in London and Napa Valley. Join the ECW for a fun evening and for a great cause!

Haiti trip March 9-March 16:

Greetings from St. Paul's Haiti Committee. We are planning a medical mission to our small school (l'ecole St. Croix, Ravine a l'Anse), in the rural mountains north of Les Cayes, in the south of Haiti.

Our mission is to check on our 322 students, ranging in ages from kindergarten to 6th grade. We have a few years of height-and-weight charts and will continue to measure the continuing students and start new charts for new students. We will be treating for worms and minor skin diseases and doing a general assessment of the health of all the children. We are working with a local healthcare worker to help establish year round care for our children. Our leader, Dr. Herb Davis, is a pediatrician, and has been visiting the school for over 20 years. He is well known and beloved by the people of Ravine a l'Anse.

We will also meet with the Haitian teachers and

parents to discuss goals and objectives for the coming year. We will also check on our kitchen construction project, do some shopping in the local markets, and then plan to spend the last night in a hotel in Port au Prince.

I hope we have piqued your interest in our mission. Currently, the budget is approximately $1500 per person, including air fare and room and board. Payments should be made to St. Paul's and noted for this trip. We will make all of the travel and housing arrangements. You will be responsible for personal souvenirs and shopping, as well as dinner on the last night.

Let me know if you are considering joining us. We are getting close and need to finalize our reservations, so here are a few dates to look forward to:

February 9 - final commitment (we'll make airline reservations)

March 7 - final payment to St. Paul's.

Contact Easom Bond for questions or to let us know you are joining our crew to Haiti.

Coffee Hour Sign up sheet in the Entry Way Hall.

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other parishioners! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks.  An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn.  If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact :

Whitney Hosty for more info on Coffee Hour.
