Stephen Chantry, Jim Goggin and John Hort have been inducted into the Virginia Peninsula Road Racing Hall of Fame. The honor was conveyed by the Colonial Road Runners and the Peninsula Track Club.
The late Rick Brown was honored with induction into the River City Runners & Walkers Club Hall of Fame. The award given by the Parkersburg, WV, club was received on his behalf by his widow, Vivian Brown.
HYDRATE -- With warm weather upcoming in the South, sip fluids the day before and day of your race. Best to drink at every aid station instead of waiting to be thirsty. Proper hydration is important, especially in warm weather.
TREADMILL? - It is important to not become dependent on a treadmill, which forces you to shorten your stride and can lead to injuries. Running over terrain strengthens more muscles, including those for stabilizing. (Per Rush Running Co., Bentonville, AR, http://RushRunning.Com)
"The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art," per Leonardo da Vinci. (Fleet Feet Murfreesboro, http://fleetfeetmurfreesboro.com).
Run varying routes to avoid boredom. Try running on a trail - trail runs have grown in popularity. Run with someone for safety.
Send club info for publication in Running Journal's print publication, our newsletter, and/or on our website. Take a photo of newly elected club officers, recipients of annual club awards, and any special event involving your running club. We want to recognize special activities and deserving volunteer leaders.
Personal stories are welcomed at Running Journal. If you have a special story to tell about running, whether about yourself or others, write it and send to RJ@Running.Net. Include a photo.

North Carolina Roadrunners: Strong History, 700 members
By TERI SAYLOR Ice was still hanging around after a freak Christmas snow, but on the first day of 2011, the weather was balmy. A couple hundred runners, walkers and New Years Eve resolution-makers abandoned their noisemakers, shook off holiday hangovers and cobwebs, and set out on their first run of 2011.
North Carolina Roadrunners Club's Annual Resolution Run, now in its 10th Year, started at 9 a.m., and while that time of day makes a late start for runners who are notoriously early risers, it was a blessing on the morning after New Year's Eve.

A pending world record for the 100 x 5K relay was set March 27 by the Charlotte (NC) Running Club with a time of 30:56:49, which is less than 19 minutes per 5K. The record is pending approval as a Guinness World Record, said Ben Hovis, director of competition for the club All runners were members of the Charlotte Running Club and ranged in age from 14-59 with each of the 100 members running a 5K. Weather conditions were unfavorable with rain for much of the event, which was held at Providence Day School.
