Greetings!

Have you ever given thought to building your own mast?  Most people haven't; but we have a rare opportunity to participate in the process.  Boatwright Jim Ritter has agreed to head up a workshop on the process of mast-building. Come on by the Community Boat Shop on Saturday December 12 to participate in this easy to follow session on mast building.

Your Skipper,
Ray Hartjen

Mast-Building Workshop, Saturday December 12th, 9AM to 4PM

Jim & Mast jig 2

Boatwright Jim Ritter and Karin Strong his assistant will be on hand to teach you how simple it is to build your own hollow mast.  He will bring one mast that has been glued together and another in strip form.  During the workshop you will learn how to cut a taper on an 18 foot mast, how to route a birds-mouth gluing edge and how one goes about gluing the pieces together to form a 3" diameter tapered mast. Once glued together the octagonal mast blank requires planning and sanding to form a fully rounded spar. As a participant in this workshop you are given the opportunity to work on each of these steps.
.
What isn't completed on Saturday will be carried over to the following Wednesday, December 16th.

This is a free workshop. There is room for many participants.  No registration necessary.  Please bring a lunch and get involved in the art of mast-building!  For those of you who just want to drop by and observe, you are welcome too!

The Community Boat Shop is at 301 Bluff Road in Amagansett, behind the Marine Museum.
