The Skipper at the helm of a 12 Meter Greetings!

We recently hauled the Susan Constant (our flagship, a Buzzard's Bay sloop), signaling the end of the boating season for our members.

Now, the beginning of a new season - boatbuilding! Volunteer members have already begun building a Catspaw Dinghy. The boat will be 12' 9", an expansion of the sleek Herreshoff Columbia Yawl that we own and can be seen at the Community Boat Shop. The Catspaw Dinghy will be the raffle boat for 2010.

Our focus at the moment is the final days of the raffle of this year's boat, the Swampscott Dory. We have had her on display at many venues on the East End, including the Springs Fisherman's Fair, HarborFest in Sag Harbor, the Greenport Maritime Festival and the Montauk Annual Fall Festival. Now is your last chance to participate in this exciting raffle. In pictures below you can admire the Swampscott Dory, as many people have across the East End. Don't miss this opportunity to win the dory, the first boat we have built in our new boat shop. See details below on how you can win.

Finally, I would like to invite you to attend our annual Holiday Dinner Party on Saturday, December 19th at the Community Boat Shop. You will be receiving your invitation in the mail in the next two weeks.

Your Skipper,
Ray Hartjen

Annual Dinner '08

Our annual Holiday Dinner Party is a little over a month away - Saturday, December 19th. Your invitation will be in your hands
by mail within a couple of weeks. Plan to attend this party to celebrate all we have accomplished this year. But most important, it is the time of the big drawing for the Swampscott Dory. You will surely not want to miss this opportunity to discover the winner. Hopefully, you will have the lucky ticket!

First Cuts for the Catspaw Dinghy

Cutting the Keel of the Cats Paw DinghySkipper Ray assisted by Kent Miller cuts the outline of the white oak keel for the Catspaw Dinghy. It is our first effort at going it alone without the constant supervision of boatwright member Rob Barker. Another boatwright member, Jim Ritter, stops by weekly to help us over tough issues as they arise.

If you would like to help build the boat, no special building skills are required; just a desire to learn how to work with wood and create a boat. You can drop by as often as you have time, any Wednesday or Saturday from 10AM to 2PM. Or, if you just want to view the boat being built, that would be fine too. You can even bring a friend along.
