Louse Point Boat Picnic
Sunday, August 2nd, 10AM - 4PM

Louse pointMembers will bring their boats and food to share at the Boat Picnic. We will meet at the end of Louse Point road on the harbor side. This year we will have more boats than ever for you to try your hand at rowing, paddling and sailing. We are planning to have town parking restrictions lifted during our event so you can invite family and friends to join the picnic. The 12 1/2 foot Swampscott dory (pictured below) that members have been building at the Community Boat Shop by volunteering their time will have its first sea trials at the Boat Picnic. Raffle tickets for the dory are being sold to raise funds for maintaining the Community Boat Shop.

Upcoming Events 2009

Fisherman's Fair, Springs, NY . . . Saturday, August 8th 10AM to 4 PM

We are delighted to be able to bring to the Springs community a display of this year's raffle boat, the Swampscott dory, one of our newly built kayaks and our beautiful replica of a Herreshoff Columbia dinghy. Plan to stop by our display and purchase your chance to win the dory, this year's featured boat. Or, stay for an hour or so to help encourage other fair visitor
Montauk displays to become members in our expanding group of classic boat enthusiasts.

New Boat Discussion . . . Saturday, September 5th 10 - 11AM

The Boat Committee will be meeting at the Community Boat Shop to present and discuss ideas for the next boat to be built at the boat shop by member volunteers. The parameters of the boat being considered are: carvel or lapstrake row boat
10 - 12 feet in length that may or may not be designed to carry a small motor. All members are welcome to listen to the discussion and comment. If you have an idea for a boat, please e-mail Pierce Hance prior to the date of the meeting at sagmb2@strategicadvisorygroup.com. The boat selected will be built over the winter and raffled off next year to help support the Community Boat Shop.

HarborFest in Sag Harbor, NY . . . Friday, September 11th through Sunday, September 13th

HarborFest is our primary display event of the year. Join us to spend a few hours helping to sell raffle tickets or enticing HarborFest visitors to join our ranks. We have an ideal location on Long Wharf, the village dock, where almost everyone who visits the festival comes by to admire the craftsmanship of the classic boats we'll have on display.

Maritime Festival in Greenport, NY . . . Friday, September 18th through Sunday, September 20th

This will be our second year at the Greenport festival.  Pat Mundus, who now resides in Greenport, is working with the event directors.  She has secured an ideal location for our display of classic boats. We will be in Mitchell Park, which is on the waterfront where the popular antique carousel is located. We will need your support there also in terms of time at our display selling raffle tickets and encouraging people to join our organization.

Annual Holiday Dinner Party at the Community Boat Shop, Amagansett, NY . . . Saturday, December 19th, 6:30PM to 10PM

In late fall you will receive an invitation to our annual holiday dinner party. We will be raffling off the Swampscott dory at the party!
