Grand Teton Fundraising Expedition High Alpine Rock Climb - 13,770 ft | |
WHEN: Wednesday June 8 through Sunday June 12
WHY:It's an American classic, Outside magazine even listed it as #49 on the top 100 "Life List". Grand Teton provides a high alpine rock climbing experience accessible to even someone with limited rock climbing experience.
LEADERSHIP:
This will be an unguided trip led by Thomas Heffernan. Thomas successfully lead climbed the Owen-Spalding route on Grand Teton, self guided, in 2005.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GO?
Thomas will be taking 4 climbers (Thomas will lead every pitch and belay 4 people behind him). If a second person with extensive lead climbing ability volunteers, we will invite 4 additional climbers to follow Thomas as "Team 2" for a total of 10 climbers (2 leads and 8 followers). Thomas will be responsible for route finding and the second leader will merely be responsible for leading and belaying a second party of 4 behind Team 1.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE ROCK CLIMBING EXPERIENCE?
You do need to have some rock climbing experience (at least some top roping experience). You do not have to have multi-pitch rock climbing experience as Thomas will lead a training climb to Seneca Rocks, West Virginia to teach the basics in multi-pitch rock climbing. The Owen-Spalding Route on Grand Teton is only a 5.4 climb so it is relatively easy as far as technical climbing skills.
HOW WILL THE TEAM BE SELECTED?
Given the limited number of slots, this climb will be offered first to past Last Well Fundraiser/Climbers on a first come first serve basis. The first Last Well climbers that respond by email to me at
tom@bizshapers.com
and commit to submitting a deposit of $200 will be considered first. If there are many responses, Thomas will select the team based on past fundraising success. If we do not have enough Last Well applicants, the trip will be opened up to other participants. |

Vision Statement
| |
Our mission is to provide clean water to the entire nation of Liberia and preach the Message of Jesus Christ to those we serve.
We pursue this mission in order to:
1. Challenge other Christian organizations to ultimately create a movement to provide clean water and proclaim the Gospel in other countries around the world.
2. Empower the 20s and 30s generation in America to provide the majority of the finances for this movement, as well as engaging in evangelistic activity in Liberia.
3. Show the world that this generation of American Christians is serious about living out God's purpose for the church to be the agent of change for the world, regardless of the need.
We will raise awareness and funding through a variety of campaigns, providing funding to our partner organizations, who will provide clean water solutions and preach the Gospel in Liberia. A defining fundraising campaign is our Seven Summits Awareness Campaign. A founding team of ten mountaineers has committed to climbing the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents - the Seven Summits - to accomplish the goals above.

Lastest News from Todd Phillips
Pressing forward has been our theme this year for The Last Well. God continues to bless our efforts in unimaginable ways as each volunteer, supporter and prayer warrior uses their gifts and passions to provide clean water to the entire nation of Liberia and share Christ with those we serve.
As many of you know, I moved to Dallas, Texas in early March and moved the home office of The Last Well with me to Dallas. Over the past month we've worked diligently to accomplish three important goals during this transition:
- Recruit a DC Chapter Director for The Last Well who would continue to grow and improve upon the work done in the DC area to date.
- Receive and report on wells completed by one of our partners, World Hope, in the last quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011.
- Establish a beach head for future ministry in the Dallas area specifically and the Southwest as a whole.
I'm happy to report we've made significant progress in all three! First, I'm extremely pleased to announce that Zach Casper, one of the founding members of this ministry, has been approved unanimously by The Last Well Board of Directors to become the new DC Chapter Director for The Last Well. After much prayer, Zach expressed his continued personal passion for the mission of The Last Well and his conviction that God is leading him to take on this leadership role. On behalf of the board, we are both supportive of Zach's decision and encouraged by what his talents and skills will bring to the ongoing mission of the TLW in the DC area. Please pray for Zach as he fosters a team of leaders and welcomes a new group of passionate young men and women to promote awareness and raise money to accomplish our God-given goal to provide clean water to the entire nation of Liberia, and share Christ with those we serve. Read more about Zach below.
Second, I'm thrilled to report that our new partnership with World Hope has already reaped a harvest. In just the past few months, World Hope has reported that five (5) wells have been drilled so far, with many more in the coming months! You can join in our excitement and see for yourself the wells that have been drilled since we began this journey with God several years ago by clicking on the following link: www.thelastwell.org/wells

Finally, I want to give you a quick update on our efforts in Dallas, Texas and the surrounding area. In short, moving our home office from Washington, D.C. to our new home in Dallas has been challenging but I'm happy to report that our move is complete. Jennifer Holland (jenniferh@lakepointe.org), my executive assistant at Lake Pointe Church, has been working overtime communicating with our Board of Directors, the staff at McLean Bible Church, and Caroline Seymour, my former executive assistant, to transfer all bookkeeping, banking and event calendars to her desk. She's done an excellent job in making the move as smooth as possible. I look forward to working with her in the coming months and years in relation to the ministry of The Last Well. If you would like to contact me, please feel free to email Jennifer to set up a meeting.
In summary: we're drilling wells, we're sharing the Gospel! We're changing the world in Jesus' name! Be sure to make a regular visit to
www.thelastwell.org to see the latest wells, read past newsletters, and of course give financially to provide clean water to the entire nation of Liberia and share Christ with those we serve. There will be a day in the not too distant future when the last well is drilled and everyone in Liberia has heard the name of Jesus!
Pressing forward-

Meet Zach Casper - New Director for the DC Chapter of The Last Well
With Todd's departure to Texas, long-time climber and The Last Well founder Zach Casper has taken on the directorship of the DC chapter of The Last Well. We sat down with Zach to get a better sense of how he's going to take on his new role, and where he sees the DC chapter of The Last Well Heading for 2011:
Q. How did you become involved in The Last Well and why have you stayed involved?
A. I was part of the 11-man team that started this whole thing off. Expedition Elbrus started as a single event with a vision to raise money for the clean water crisis in Liberia. At the time I was looking for a community within the church to get involved in but nothing seemed quite like a perfect fit. I was given a call one day by Jordan, one of the other founding team members. He told me the vision of this upcoming climb, the details and I was in, instantly.
The vision of combining the adventure sport of mountaineering, ministry and fundraising just seemed like a perfect match in my eyes. Many of the original team already had trips similar to Mt Elbrus on our separate to-do lists. Mixing them with helping people just seemed like it offered so much more than just a personal goal. We were now fundraising and climbing for people living a lifestyle of daily challenge. When we returned from that amazing trip we had so many people behind us and had raised around $200,000+. That was amazing. Our one climb turned into a 501(c)(3) things started moving. It was obvious God was behind us given The Last Well's early success.
