Vision Statement | |
Our mission is to provide clean water to the entire nation of Liberia and preach the Message of Jesus Christ to those we serve.
We pursue this mission in order to:
1. Challenge other Christian organizations to ultimately create a movement to provide clean water and proclaim the Gospel in other countries around the world.
2. Empower the 20s and 30s generation in America to provide the majority of the finances for this movement, as well as engaging in evangelistic activity in Liberia.
3. Show the world that this generation of American Christians is serious about living out God's purpose for the church to be the agent of change for the world, regardless of the need.
We will raise awareness and funding through a variety of campaigns, providing funding to our partner organizations, who will provide clean water solutions and preach the Gospel in Liberia. A defining fundraising campaign is our Seven Summits Awareness Campaign. A founding team of ten mountaineers has committed to climbing the tallest mountains on each of the seven continents - the Seven Summits - to accomplish the goals above.

An Update From the Founder
In a time of global fiscal and political uncertainty, God has shown us once again that God's work, done God's way, will never lack God's supply! As you may have already read from last month's newsletter, we raised $44,000 at our first annual Last Well Gala. Needless to say, it was a huge success.
As a result of the tremendous response, the Last Well Board of Directors approved a $55,000 check to World Hope International, one of our partner organizations in Liberia. You may remember World Hope secured a private donor who agreed to match all moneys raised by The Last Well, up to a maximum of $75,000 in 2010. We sent them a $20,000 check just over a month ago and have now sent them an additional $55,000 to take advantage of all matching funds available. This means that a total of $150,000 is heading to Liberia to provide clean water and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with tens of thousands of Liberians in the coming months through our partner organization, World Hope.
Several people at the Last Well Gala donated money specifically for Bio-sand filters. These filters serve to clean water in single homes in rural areas of Liberia where it can be very difficult to drill wells. Five filters were purchased by donors at a cost of $100 per filter. Added to this, the board agreed to purchase five additional filters. So, funds are in route now to Samaritan's Purse, another organization we serve alongside in Liberia, so that ten families in very remote areas of the country will now have an ongoing clean water supply and it will be provided in the name of Christ!
I want to offer a personal thank you to all of you who have prayed for, served with, and donated moneys to The Last Well in 2010. I'd also ask, as you pray about your end-of-year giving, that you consider including The Last Well as one of the organizations you choose to support.
Finally, praise God for His abundant supply on behalf of those with whom He seeks to have an eternal relationship with in Liberia. The Last Well is committed to see the day when everyone in Liberia, border-to-border, has access to clean water and has heard the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas!

Partnerships Extending Reach of TLW
With 1.4 million left to serve with water and the Gospel, The Last Well has already been partnering with Living Water International, which is a Christian organization committed to sharing water and the Gospel with people in now 28 countries. To date, we have partnered with Living Water International to drill and rehabilitate 72 wells in Liberia, serving 66,413 Liberians with clean and accessible drinking water and the Gospel! To read the latest reports and learn more about Living Water International visit our website.
In order to expand our serving in Liberia, we have recently partnered with two other ministries - World Hope International and Samaritans Purse. World Hope has a similarly broad range of ministries to many countries around the world as a faith-based relief and development organization that works to alleviate suffering and injustice through education, enterprise, and community health. World Hope works in Liberia to lead the restoration of a microfinance program, including clean water and the Gospel. Currently, The Last Well is partnering to send funds to fulfill a matching grant of $250,000 over the next 36 months to be used as a dollar-for-dollar grant.
Samaritan's Purse was founded by Franklin Graham and is also helping thousands of people in Liberia through clean water and hygiene programs, care for HIV/AIDS orphans, church renovation, a nutritional feeding program, and evangelism outreach. However, one of the unique features is they serve in predominantly very remote villages throughout the countryside of Liberia. One of the things they provide is the Bio-sand filter, which is about $100 a filter and can provide clean water for several years to a family or small village.
Also we are currently building up a Google map that pinpoints each well dug and rehabilitated so far. The Last Well is excited about these three key partnerships in order to achieve our goal of serving the 1.4 million people left that not only need access to clean water solutions but also the Gospel message.

On the Ground in Liberia
This past summer, 10 people joined together for the inaugural trip to Liberia, we sat down with team member Matt Porter to get his perspective on experiencing Liberia for the first time.
Q. How did you see the impact of TLW in the communities you served in during the trip? A. I was able to see the wells up close, which was great, but probably the way I saw the impact most was just the relative overall good health of the children and adults.
Q. What experience was most impactful for you in Liberia?
A. At one point, the LORD showed me a powerful picture of Heaven. As Matthew 18:3 says "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven." One afternoon at the conclusion of a play time the worship music started up again in the church and as I made my way back from the soccer field four children came up to me and took my hands. We proceeded to walk together arm in arm, full of excitement to go and sing praise songs to Jesus. After a few feet, my eyes were drawn to the sand where I saw a yellow bead from a Gospel bracelet that was made that morning. I reached down and picked it up and it became as clear as day what the LORD was saying. For the Gospel bracelets yellow is the color symbolizing Heaven. The LORD was showing me that Heaven was like this moment: fellowship marked by the unselfconscious agape love displayed by these children and a joyful focus on worshipping the LORD.
Q. What has God taught you since returing from Liberia? A. Expect the LORD to work in unexpected ways! And trust in Him to work through you when something seems impossible that you're called to do. I had an experience during the trip and now after that trip that I never could have foreseen. During the trip I had an opportunity to preach a sermon and now since returning I have been blessed to help build a Christian school for one of the congregations we visited. Two things that were and are way over my head but I've learned to trust Jesus for the outcome and let the Holy Spirit work through me. |
