Donations Many girls in our target locations for next year are unable to pay and participate in the program. If you are interested in providing a program scholarship for girls for our upcoming Spring 2011 season, please visit our website and click the DONATE button to make a donation. Scholarship amounts are from $25 to $125. A donation of $250 sponsors one girl for one year. This amount goes toward providing trained coaches, the GOTR curriculum, snacks, t-shirts and registration fees needed to support the program. As part of our mission and commitment to Austin and surrounding communities, we will bring the Girls on the Run program to all areas in need, but we need your help.
About Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive choices and healthy living. Over 12 weeks, girls are guided by trained volunteer coaches, and learn about the power of positive self-image. At the end of the semester, in celebration of their achievement, girls along with their families, coaches and volunteers participate in a local 5K race.

Run Like A Girl
Looking for something to read? Run Like a Girl is a book that features women who discovered unexpected benefits from participating in sports. In the March issue, SELF magazine says that Run Like a Girl is: "A chicken soup for the athlete's soul. Its interviews with hundreds of women will fire your desire to reach personal bests in all areas of life." One of those women is Girls on the Run's very own Molly Barker! Kirkus Reviews says that it's, "An enthusiastic tribute to women who replace the stigma attached to the term "running like a girl" with a sense of power and honor."
Part locker-room confidential, motivational manifesto, and personal memoir, Run Like A Girl reveals how the confidence women build by participating in sports-whether it's running or rock climbing, swimming or yoga-can transform their lives in profound ways. Amazon Link.

Run for the girls and for YOU!
"I began the race strong, almost too strong. Around mile 7 I found my stride and kept a steady pace. At mile 19, I hit my mental wall and had to walk. For the next 5 miles I ran/walk. Mile 24 was my turning point. I saw a woman cheering while holding a sign that read "There will be a day when you can no longer do this. Today is NOT that day." I teared up. About 30 yards ahead was the Nike power station, and I heard a man on a microphone say, "2.2 miles left. It's time you finish what you started!" And that was it. I ran all the way to the finish line!
