Donations

Many girls in our target locations for next year are unable to pay and participate in the program. If you are interested in providing a program scholarship for girls for our upcoming Spring 2010 season, please visit our website and click the DONATE button to make a donation. Scholarship amounts are from $25 to $125.

A donation of $250 sponsors one girl for one year. This amount goes toward providing trained coaches, the GOTR curriculum, snacks, t-shirts and registration fees needed to support the program. As part of our mission and commitment to Austin and surrounding communities, we will bring the Girls on the Run program to all areas in need, but we need your help.

About Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive choices and healthy living. Over 12 weeks, girls are guided by trained volunteer coaches, and learn about the power of positive self-image. At the end of the semester, in celebration of their achievement, girls along with their families, coaches and volunteers participate in a local 5K race.

Rachael FelanRachael Felan
Coach Coordinator

Rachael has lived in Austin since age 12.  After graduation from UT, she entered the world of residential real estate and has worked as a buyer's agent with The Nelson Project at Keller Williams Realty for the last 3 years.

In her words, "Girls on the Run is unlike any other non-profit that I have been involved in. There is something about the program that reaches all girls, no matter their age, their family situation, or school and helps each participant grow into a girl of their word. Coaching over the last two years has made me realize that all girls in today's world face similar issues and giving them the opportunity at the elementary level to talk about those issues while also setting them up to achieve such a big goal as a 5k run is amazing. Every 5k brings tears to my eyes when I see how proud each girl is when they pass the finish line."

Austin Named one of Best Cities for Families
Austin, TX rated as #2 for Best Cities for Families by Parenting Magazine

AustinParenting magazine conducted a nationwide survey of women from Parenting's MomConnection research panel to pinpoint their top criteria in choosing a place to raise their families. Their choices were (in order of priority): quality of schools; affordability and availability of quality housing; low crime rates; job availability and growth; number of registered sex offenders; recreational opportunities; quality/quantity of pediatricians/family physicians; commute time and distance; proximity to a good children's hospital; quality/quantity of childcare facilities and preschools; and air quality.

GOTR selected as 26 for 26 charity for Austin Marathon 2011

26 Miles for 26 Charities logo26 Miles for 26 Charities is the philanthropy program of the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. The program provides Central Texas non-profits with the opportunity to advance community awareness while raising money to support their mission.

Participating non-profits host a water stop on the marathon or half marathon course. Each non-profit is assigned their own water stop and will be represented by over 1,000 volunteers. Runners will find great themes along the course, many of which reflect the mission of the non-profits. We hope this provides a moment of joy for the runners as they make their journey to the finish line.
