We are finalizing all the details for our Fall programs, and will share more when we're confirmed. Many thanks to Maggie for leading our expansion plan.

Many girls in our target locations for next year are unable to pay and participate in the program. Scholarship amounts are from $25-125.

About Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive choices and healthy living. Over 12 weeks, girls are guided by trained volunteer coaches, and learn about the power of positive self-image. At the end of the semester, in celebration of their achievement, girls along with their families, coaches and volunteers participate in a local 5K race.
Girls on the Run of Austin is beyond excited to announce our summer benefit:

"Runnin' Down a Dream"

The fun is scheduled for August 13th. This will be an amazing night of guitars, music, food, drinks, and great prizes! More details are below, and we'll be sending out a separate invitation soon...we hope you can join us!

We also want to thank everyone for coming to the Tiara Tuesday Happy Hour at Ruth's Chris Steak House on the May 26th. Tiara Tuesday is held each month, and proceeds from a raffle, silent auction and the venue go to the featured charity. GOTR received some great exposure thanks to the generosity of Austin Woman Magazine, Cupidz Closet, and Majic 95.5. Check out the Austin Woman Magazine website for more information on future Tiara Tuesday events.

Sincerely,

Shorey Russell

Did you know?
With summer upon us and movie and TV watching at an annual high for kids out of school, think about this:

A Kaiser Foundation study by Nancy Signorielli found that in movies, television shows and the accompanying commercials, women's and girls' appearance is frequently commented on: 58 percent of female characters in movies had comments made about their looks, as did 28 percent in television shows and 26 percent of the female models in the accompanying commercials.

Mens' and boys' appearance is talked about significantly less often in all three media: 24% of male characters in the movies, and 10 percent in TV shows, and 7 percent in commercials. (source: National Institute on Media and the Family)

Get out & be active! And have a very safe summer.
