Record Registrations!
Girls on the Run of Austin is pleased to announce we have enrolled 27 girls into our program this semester. All of the girls from the Fall semester have enrolled again. Casey, a returning runner from the Fall told us, "I am very proud of myself for finishing the race and learning how to appreciate myself no matter what I do!"
The word about GOTR is getting around. Prime Time Coordinator, Lorie Barzano contacted us about starting a program at Becker Elementary, "I have girls who have asked me to try and set-up something on the track for them." Luckily, she saw our website. Turns out that Girls on the Run is just what she needed. Becker's program starts Feb. 23rd, and additional registrations are still being accepted.
"Our 5-year plan is to be operating in 10 or more schools, serving all areas of the community" said Board Chair and Becker Head Coach, KB Schatz. "And we are well on our way."
Executive Director and Allison Head Coach, Carrie Peasinger, attended the Girls on the Run International Summit in January and returned invigorated. Everyone at GOTR of Austin is energized for a successful season. About Girls on the Run
GOTR is an after-school program that uses the power of running to help prepare pre-teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive choices and healthy living. Over 12 weeks, girls are guided by trained volunteer coaches, and learn about the power of positive self-image. At the end of the semester, in celebration of their accomplishments, girls along with their families, coaches and volunteers participate in a local 5K race.

We'd like to introduce our newest coaches, Deanna (left) & Ashley (right). Deanna is coaching at Bridge Point Elementary, and Ashley is coaching at Allison Elementary. Interested in being a coach? Contact KB at kb@gotraustin.org.
Our "Save the Day" volunteer & supporter, Shella, came to our rescue with healthy snacks when our donated snack bars were recalled with the recent Salmonella scare. Shella purchased and donated enough snacks for all 3 schools for several weeks.
To all our volunteers: Your energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the girls are greatly appreciated!
Want to get involved but have limited availability? GOTR will be volunteering at a water stop at the Zooma Half-Marathon on Saturday, April 4th. We need 10-15 volunteers, so if you're interested let Jodi know at jodi@gotraustin.org. |
