Volume 3, Edition 7                                           July 2011

Greetings!

Remember how you felt about summer as a kid?  If you were anything like me then you cherished those endless, lazy days playing with friends and capturing lightning bugs.  As parents of children whose memories may not be as pleasant, our summers can seem more stressful.  Many of our kids do better when there is the structure of school (as much as they don't want to hear that!) so we may not have the appreciation that our parents had for these long, warm days. Although FAM can't make school come any faster, hopefully, you RSVPed to our Quassy event this coming Friday.  You and the kids areFAM Balloons sure to have a wonderful time. This year promises to be a huge success - and I mean huge.  We have over 500 attending! I, for one, can't wait to see you all.  And, if you really need additional support with the endless days of summer, check out our books. There are many great resources for parents listed.  Some of them are available to borrow from the Adoption Assistance Program. Many can be ordered through your local library.  And for those of you who have adopted, join us at our adoption support group, Ring of Hope.  It's a great group and we'd love to have you.

Are you or someone you know looking for a part time position with lots of flexibility? Our coordinator for Fairfield County, is leaving FAM and a replacement is being sought by her local Executive Committee.  Details about the position appear in the brief article below.

Last but not least, if you belong to a service group that loves to be creative, please let us know.  We would love to bring some unpainted birdhouses to a meeting. Let your inner artist have free reign! It really is fun and you will be helping a good cause.

Enjoy the final weeks of summer.

See you at Quassy!

 Everyone Needs a Nest logo

Great Service Opportunity Available

"It takes a village to raise a child "(African proverb).

This statewide project was begun to support and raise awareness about the continued need for foster "nests."  Do you or a member of your family belong to a service organization or youth group?  Would your group like to help support foster care and adoption and help spread the word about the need for additional homes?

How can you help?
  • Host a painting party as a service project (materials can be provided).
  • Display finished Bird Houses & Literature about Foster Care.
  • Invite the "Everyone Needs a Nest" Project to your fair, festival, tag sale, meeting or coffee hour.
  • Make a donation to "Everyone Needs a Nest."
  • Donate arts and crafts supplies such as paints, brushes or wooden bird houses.
  • Build and donate bird houses.
By participating in this project, you become part of the village.

 star of the month

Each month one of our member agencies feature a "star" whose service to children in foster care

deserves special recognition.
Stars receive a small gift from FAM and a certificate of appreciation from the nominating agency. This month our partner, Dynobites Smiles, is honoring one of their own.

Dear Kaitlynn:

We would like to recognize you for your outstanding contribution to Dynobite Smiles.  Your hard work and dedication has exhibited extreme leadership through your noteworthy customer service.   We are strong believers in treating little smiles in a big way and your presence and good attitude at Dynobite Smiles has proven you take our mission statement seriously.  Each child deserves a positive dental experience and you do all you can to ensure that experience happens.  It is imperative for us to deliver exceptional dental care, for families to feel welcome and at home and we have seen you treat our patients like family.  Thank you for giving individual care to each patient no matter what their need.  Keep up the good work!
