Greetings from Rev. Greg Turk
Our congregational life and ministry this month includes worship and ritual as windows to encounter the Holy. It also includes Worship and Wonder, where children and the adults serving them experience the same. There are moments of prayer, individually and collectively (Wednesday eve prayer service and Monday morning men's support group). The College of Spirituality classes ("Faith and Justice," "What the Bible Really Says About Homosexuality," "Faith at the Movies.") gather for education and sharing. We gather to vision how God's building on this corner will serve into the future. Council and committees effectively and efficiently work to further movement of and care for our congregation. With Community Lunch on Capitol Hill, we prepare meals and feed hungry and homeless folks. In fellowship after worship every Sunday and the Valentines Day Dance we celebrate and share our lives. Which of these are or are not of our spiritual life, together? Silly question, right? All of it!
Appropriately, we bring the fullness of our lives to God, and God does great things in and through us. "We are a welcoming people, following Christ's example by journeying to encounter the Holy, live faithfully, and do justice." Walk on! |

Men's Group Update
The men had a very busy December. We started off the month by learning about our spiritual gifts and how to use them. We then decided to put our gifts into action by selling Christmas trees at the Dunchee House on Capitol Hill, every Tuesday, even in the pouring rain. We had lots of laughs, hot chocolate and cookies to keep us warm, and made some great friends along the way.
In January things are starting to heat up as we chat and learn about the battle field of the mind; learning how to change our thought pattern to be more Christ-like. If you would like to attend, see Michael Small or call 206-909-2490. |

Congratulations for Six Community Suppers
Congratulations All Pilgrims Christian Church and friends! We have completed six Community Suppers as of January 27! Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement. Many people from all walks of life have been involved in the suppers as guests and volunteers. During the meals and the activities required to put them on, we truly become a community. We talk and listen to each other's stories. Volunteers do this among themselves while chopping vegetables in the kitchen, mopping the floor in Stuart Hall, or making peanut butter sandwiches for the guests to take with them after having a hot meal. There is nothing like working on a mission project together to solidify relationships as beloved children of God. If any of you might want to volunteer for Community Supper sometime in the future, but cannot right now, contact Sharon Nichols at 425-793-6369 or nichols5@seattleu.edu and indicate your interest and when you might be available. We have every intention to be doing this for a long time. You are needed whenever you can participate!
In order for the Community Supper to continue to grow and to be able to significantly help the homeless and hungry community, we need to upgrade our kitchen. Therefore, please support the Valentines Dinner/Dance fund raiser to be held on February 11th. To get tickets, donate items for the silent auction, bring your favorite dessert, or help in other ways, contact Michael Small at 206-909-2490 or mmario2mario@hotmail.com. Being involved in the Valentines Dinner/Dance will bring joy to us as we all have a great time and do great things together. |

Brock Update
THANKS.....for your continued prayers of support and concern for my husband and I during his six years with Alzheimer's disease. He has transitioned 3 weeks ago very well to another Community on the 5th floor south at Providence Mount St. Vincent in West Seattle, near our home. He will be in Church every Sunday in their beautiful Chapel at 1:30 after I leave our service. His daily needs are being met 24 hours a day with a wonderful staff in his Community where meals are served and nursing and activities take place. We've had wonderful years together in Ministry the past 60 years, 7 years as past minister of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on Broadway now a part of All Pilgrims Christian. Before retirement, he served his last 17 years as Regional Minister of the Disciples Churches of the Northwest Region in Washington, Northern Idaho and Alaska.
Thank you for your continued support,
Berlena Brock |

In Memoriam
We regret to inform you that William M. Hamilton passed away on November 21, 2010 in Tennessee.
Many of you will remember Bill as the volunteer Executive Director of Pilgrim Referral and Resource Center, from 1994 - 2000. In his professional career as an epidemiologist and in his capacity as a volunteer, he was devoted to helping others.
The following is from an annual report he wrote and sums up Bill's philosophy: "Underlying all that we do is the belief in the value and dignity of every human life, a belief that requires us to strive toward providing everyone within our community access to those goods and services that create and sustain health and wholeness of body, mind, and spirit...."
Bill's memorial service will be held at Prospect Congregational UCC on Saturday, February 26 at 2:00 pm. Please help us spread the word to those who knew Bill. Everyone is warmly invited. Bill asked that remembrances be sent to the American Cancer Society.
