A Farewell and Blessings to my APCC Friends
It's time. Time to say good-bye and make way for something wonderfully new that God is doing in your congregational life!
We have spent the last 26 months together, living into the path that leads APCC and each of you into your next stage of ministry. We have hit bumps, holes, rough patches and slightly avoided a few cliffs. We've had to rebuild and repair from time to time. We have also celebrated the journey together, learned from one another, cared for each other and seen a renewing acknowledgement of the Holy Spirit at work within us. We have become a powerfully united congregation, with rich roots and a bright unfolding future.
I am both delighted and slightly melancholy to say farewell. I have grown to care deeply for the people of APCC. Serving this congregation has been a joy for me, even in the difficult times. You have trusted me, listened to me, followed and challenged me and embraced God's Spirit with me. I say "farewell", knowing I will miss you, but more so with a happiness that celebrates the real potential for your future- from you hearing and answering with action and faith what God is calling you to. I see a vibrant ministry to the people of Seattle and its greater area budding before you. This potential took careful planting of bulbs deep in the soil years ago and careful attention recently to restore, separate and replant the same bulbs to sprout up with strength and brilliance of color. Continue to ask the Spirit for guidance. Continue to accept warmly and without fear the responses that are of God. YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED. Share generously and work with each other with a respect, dignity and care that the saints of our faith would be proud of.
In the words of the Apostle Paul (2 Corinthians 13: 11-13):
"Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you."
God's peace and vibrant Spirit living in all you do,
Pastor Nina |

New Beginnings Efforts Sprouting!

Just as we're seeing spring bulbs blossom, we are seeing New Beginnings Action Inquiries taking shape. Among the highlights:
· Opening the Greenspace - Research is being conducted with churches who have opened their grounds to the public, and what their experiences have been. This project team hopes to learn from what has worked well for others in Seattle and factor those lessons in accordingly. Rod Purdy has also consulted with Craig Rennebohm who is active in homeless ministry, for his insights.
· Worship and Wonder - This project held an informational meeting with parents and prospective instructors. A "critical mass" of those interested in being teachers or assistants emerged, and the project will go to the next step - a proposal to Council.
· Community Lunch Program - Congregational support was expressed for doing a Thursday dinner event of this program. Project leads are expected to research costs and submit a proposal to Council.
Although not an official Action Inquiry - the Project First Impressions group has also been active in beautifying the entry way including the sidewalk, door and narthex area of the church.
No Rally in April
We have been hosting Action Inquiries every third Sunday of the month. We will resume that practice in May, but will not hold a Rally on April 18th. Instead, that day we will celebrate Pastor Nina, as she ends her Interim position at All Pilgrims.

Groups, Committees & Events
Concert Series Continues
All Pilgrims Concert Series announces two upcoming events in April. Sunday, April 11 at 4:00 pm, Richard Fuller will present the music of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach on fortepiano and clavichord. Mr. Fuller is a Washington native who resides in Vienna, Austria as a music professor and concert artist of early keyboard music. He will perform on an 18th-century replica of a fortepiano built by Mathaeus Heilmann and a clavichord built by Owen Daly of Salem, OR. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear a world-renowned musician play on rarely heard instruments in our wonderful sanctuary acoustics. You can read more about Richard Fuller by visiting:
Our second concert for the month will be Sunday, April 25 at 4:00 pm. This event will feature the Seattle University Consort and Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Joy Sherman. This top-rate 40-voice collegiate choral and chamber orchestra is sure to be a great musical experience.
Both concerts are a $10 suggested donation, students and seniors pay as able. Talk to Ryan Dye for further details.
New Bible Study
Clark Wills and Justin Umbright will be offering a six-week Bible study, beginning April 6, on the Book of Acts. Please see bulletin announcements for further details or email Clark or Justin.

Pride Committee Meeting Report
This is what was decided at the Pride meeting on the 21st of March.
Were are planing to participate both Saturday and Sunday, June 26-27. The committee has decided to have the church visible on both days. Just like last year, we will be open to answer any questions about the church and to hand out water. There was also discussion about having a service with MCC and other churches around the area to pray for human rights (pending Council/Pastoral approval).
During the parade, we're hoping to march with Multi- Faith Works and Plymouth Congregational. There was also talk about being visible at the rally. That would mean we would need to have a few people running the booth and splitting it into shifts.
As far as the parade goes, we are looking to ride on a truck so everyone who wants to can participate. If you have ideas on a theme or want info in helping or simply want to participate, please talk with Michael Small by calling him at 206-909-2490 or emailing
Two Important Annual Gatherings
As most of you know, All Pilgrims Christian Church had its beginnings 7 years ago when two congregations merged, one a United Church of Christ congregation and the other a Christian Church; Disciples of Christ congregation. In the next 8 weeks, both the UCC and DOC will be holding area annual meetings.
The Annual Meeting of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the UCC is the first, scheduled for April 23-25, in the Wenatchee Convention Center. The keynote speaker will be Rodger Nishioka from Columbia Theological Seminary. The annual meeting features church business, worship and workshops. Additional information and registration can be found here.
The Disciples of Christ has scheduled its 2010 Regional Assembly on May 21-23 at the North Hill Christian Church in Spokane. Keynote speakers include Eliacin Rosario-Cruz, who has been named among the "top 10 Next-Gen leaders to watch" by Sojourners Magazine. He is with the Mustard Seed House in Seattle. Additional information can be found here.
Tech-Savvy Outreach: New UCC Commercial
The United Church of Christ will launch its next "God is Still Speaking" commercial on April 16, utilizing the church's best broadcasting arsenal: its own members.
The new message will be kept under close wraps until introduced at 9 am (ET) sharp on launch day via email, Facebook and ucc.org. To read more about this on the UCC's website and see a fee preview, click here. | |
