Daniel Gehrs Wines Announces

Top Awards at the West Coast Wine Competition

In a field of over 1,200 entries from 11 states and 6 foreign countries, two of our wines received Gold Medal and Best of Class at the 29th Annual West Coast Wine Competition held in May in Sonoma County.
2009 Edna Valley Pinot Noir

Coming off an identical Gold Medal and Best of Class performance at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition our deliciously, delightfully Burgundian 2009 Pinot Noir has repeated the feat in the Sonoma County wine country. Only 605 cases were bottled in December of 2010 and, of this writing just a little over 50 cases remain available for sale from the winery. This is a Cote du Beaune style Pinot with juicy blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors and aromas, soft tannins and with an earthy-spicy-toasty underpinning it yields a winning combination of balance, versatility with food, finesse and near universal appeal.

2008 Fireside Port - Amador County

This outstanding dessert wine has previously been awarded a Platinum Medal at the Consumer Wine Awards at Lodi earlier this year. We have a record of consecutive Gold Medals and Best of Class awards for our Fireside Port going back to the vintage 2000 without a break. Is there a word for "nine-repeat"? It is grown exclusively in the highlands of the Sierra Foothills/Gold Country and consists of the authentic, Portuguese varietals that have given the Porto district world-wide renown. Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarella form the backbone of this immensely enjoyable wine. Now in extremely limited national distribution in the 750ml. size only for this vintage this has the distinction of being our top award winning, and longest running Gold Medal award winner.
