Volunteer Spotlight
Esther Honey supporters and volunteers since 2000, veterinarian Duane Schaad and his wife Karen, a nurse, have volunteered many times for Esther Honey over the past decade along with members of their family and staff from their Broadway Veterinary Clinic in Portland Oregon.  They arrived once again last month and went straight to work performing surgeries, guiding vet students and providing the expertise that only a veterinarian with more than twenty years experience can share.

Testimonial
"What a great place the EHF is. Having been volunteering here nearly 3 weeks, it has become clear just how important the clinic is to the animals, residents and tourists of the Cook Islands. When locals here find out I'm working at Esther Honey, a warm smile spreads across their faces, and I am made to feel like part of the Island family. The clinic is busy and providing excellent veterinary care in an challenging environment. And to continue, the donations and volunteers must keep coming!"

 NEW X-RAY UNIT FOR PETS

- Matariki Wilson, Cook Islands News

June 15 2012

Diagnosing problems with local pets has become a whole lot easier at the country's only animal clinic thanks to the generous donation of an x-ray machine.

The Esther Honey Foundation Animal Clinic in Nikao received an x-ray machine last week sponsored by the Barton family and The Bond Store.

And in its short time on the island the machine has already made mending broken pets a smoother process..." Read more >>

Note: "The foundation also extends a sincere Meitaki ma'ata to all of our additional supporters who donated earlier toward this goal including Loretta & Chris Brown and Just Smile Dentistry for their significant contributions toward purchasing a new x-ray machine. Moneys raised prior to the Barton Family donation will now be used to purchase orthopedic and other related equipment that will help Esther Honey save animals lives (and legs!)."

Volunteer!
EHF Volunteer We couldn't carry out our vital work without our dedicated volunteers. The Esther Honey Foundation Animal Clinic provides the only veterinarian services and clinic for the whole of the Cook Islands. It is run entirely by volunteers - and we need more.
  • We are still accepting applications for veterinarians who want to work at the EHF Clinic and on EHF VET TREKS in 2012.
  • We especially need veterinarians with three or more years experience (including surgical experience).
  • Join our brilliant clinic team in treating more than 3,000 animals annually who, without our combined efforts, would have no place to turn if they are injured, sick or starving.
If you are ready to join the more than 280 veterinarian volunteers and hundreds of additional EHF veterinary professionals from around the globe who have traveled to the Cook Islands to
  • treat more than 33,000 patients and
  • spay/neuter more than 13,000 dogs and cats (Esther Honey has sterilized more than 70% of the canine population on Rarotonga and Mangaia)

and want to make a permanent improvement in the lives of thousands of animals and their communities, visit our volunteer page.

Sincerely,
