An opportunity to give

I can't believe it has been 17 years since I founded the Esther Honey Foundation. What a life-changing experience this has been! It's not just about the animals and communities in the Cook Islands who we have served, but it is about all the incredibly generous and caring people like you who have volunteered and who have supported our clinic and programs in so many ways.

I'm writing to share very exciting news: We have been offered an opportunity to raise even more resources to help support our programs. A generous donor, The Estelle Friedman Gervis Family Foundation, has committed to match up to $10,000 in cash donations. Each donation will be matched at 50%. That means an individual donation of $500 becomes $750! Our goal is to raise $20,000 in order to receive the full match.

All donations must be secured by December 16, 2011 to qualify for the match. To make a financial contribution and learn more about how you can help, visit us online: estherhoney.org/donate
.
I know you have been involved with our efforts, but just to give you a quick update, here are some of our accomplishments since we established the Cook Islands only animal hospital in 1995.
  • Treated over 31,000 animals
  • Reduced the canine population through spay/neuter and education from 6000 to 2000;
  • Sterilized 78% of the remaining 2,000 Rarotonga dogs. (Sterilized more than 12,660 animals to date)
  • Conducted 109 EHF VET TREKS® to remote outer islands and villages; treating over 3,700 animals who would otherwise lack veterinary care.
  • Recruited over 267 veterinarian volunteers and hundreds of veterinary professionals from around the globe; including the Americas, Australasia, Europe and Africa.
  • Served 16,501 meals and rehomed 280 dogs and cats in 2010.
  • Provided all companion animals, whether homeless or with guardians, comparable care and no healthy animals have been euthanized.

Your donation will help to guarantee the future for our programs by supporting and expanding our team on the ground in Rarotonga, enabling us to continue to provide veterinary care, shelter and rehoming for Rarotonga's homeless and launch a major education program for Cook Islands children.

  • Just $100 provides sufficient baby animal milk product to raise 10 kittens.
  • $250 provides morphine, fluids and other essential products to treat one case of severe fish poisoning,
  • $500 provides food for our in-patients and homeless for one week, and
  • $1000 provides food, worming, flea product, care and love for 8 puppies and their mum until they are ready to be rehomed.

We need your help in taking the Esther Honey Foundation to the next level in serving the Cook Islands and as a model for other Pacific Island nations in veterinary service, animal population control and humane treatment.

Thank you so much for supporting the Esther Honey Foundation in the past. And thank you in advance for your contribution to help the continuation of our important mission.

I wish you and your families a happy and healthy holiday season.

Best,
