You truly are the maker or breaker of your own life. Realizing that, claiming it, owning up to your own power is the key.
I have a friend who is two-years post divorce and still living in bitterness and negativity. She fails to see that she has the power to live a great life, with or without a husband.
She fails to see that her choice to stay angry affects her physical and emotional health.
She fails to see that her actions and her words are keeping her in this downward spiral.
She fails to see that she can reverse it.
We all can. Our actions, our words, our thoughts make our world. And guess what. Who has control over your actions, your actions, your thoughts? YOU!
YOU hold the power to your own happiness. I used to say you hold the key, but really, you don't have to unlock anything. It is there. You just have to let it in. Open the door, it's not even locked. You are keeping the door closed and some of you are leaning against it with all your might.
It seems odd to say that some people are afraid of being happy. Maybe they haven't felt it in so long, they think they are better off in their comfort zone of negativity. Feeling good may be new territory. Remember this: Familiar doesn't mean it's better.
First you must DECIDE that you want to feel good. CHOOSE to be happy. And then be gentle with yourself. Do not beat yourself up for sliding down into the "woe is me" pit. Decide instead that you want to live a life that says "WOW is me!"
That is what I teach every week in this joy letter and in all my programs. YOU have the power. The power of appreciation cannot be underestimated. It opens you up to be able to receive everything you want.
I don't share my sprinkles of joy simply to amuse you. Appreciation leads to more appreciation. A chain of awakening, coming alive to all the good that is all around us. All we have to do start looking for it.
Keeping a Joy Journal is about changing your life. When you see that the simple practice of awareness creates more happiness in your life, you keep multiplying it. There is no limit to joy. There is no allotment that can be used up. The more you dip in, the deeper it gets.
By paying attention to where your attention goes, you are learning of your power. When you see that when you focus on the "crap," you feel crappy, and when you focus on the good, you feel good, it starts to make sense and become real. It is real. You create your daily world.
