JOY every week!

Greetings!
| I have evolved into my dream job - I work from home writing and creating programs, and I get to go out and speak to groups. I also am working one-on-one with individuals. I get to hand pick my clients. I also get to choose my social interactions.
(One quick tangent - YOU TOO can evolve into your dream job/dream life. It's not just for the "lucky" few. Always remember, I started out as an IRS agent. The words joy and IRS are not exactly used together much. If I got here, so can you.) Now back to the other point I want to make.
The people we choose to be around matter. I can and will write another article on the people we work with and are born into (the folks we don't get to choose) some other time. Today let's talk about the people we choose to hang with.
Many times the people we do our free time with is also by default, but we don't realize it. We hang with the people in our neighborhood, the parents of our kids' sports teams, or friends we have known forever. If those folks are fun to be with, you have stuff in common, and you have great conversations, that is wonderful. I've made dear friends from such circumstances.
However, sometimes the social group is merely a habit. If Bob and Carol go to dinner every Friday with Ted and Alice, and it's nothing but a weekly gripe fest, it's not good for you. Pay attention to the people who energize you. Pay attention to the people who drain you.
Bob & Carol are active people who like to travel, exercise, and try new things. Ted & Alice like to complain their health, their kids, their jobs, the economy, the world, you name it. There is a difference between discussing what is going on in the world, and being a BMW (Bitcher/Moaner/Whiner).
Bob & Carol invited another couple to join them and Ted & Alice. The other couple liked to laugh, they were intelligent and optimistic. They didn't get sucked into the BMW vortex. Bob & Carol felt energized at the end of the evening. Ted & Alice went home and BMWed about the new couple.
Start paying attention to your social interactions. Are they habit or are they stimulating? Find the people that feel good to be around. Introduce new people into your life. It's not as hard or as scary as you think.
Volunteer for something you love. Go to events that you are interested in. Join clubs or spiritual groups. Take a class at the community college. Use "meetup" online. Chat with the folks at the dog park. Reconnect with old friends. If someone invites you to a party where you don't know anyone, go. Go to a conference on a topic you care about. There are ways to meet people who are likeminded and upbeat.
You will find people who are good for you. Pay attention to your social habits. It's okay to stay home this Friday too. Hanging with yourself can be good for you too. You are indeed very good company.

Raving Fan/Fellow Joy Spreader |
There are so many joy spreaders across the land - I just want to say thanks. Today, I am a raving fan of all of you.Thank you to the folks who leave Happiness Club and go buy a bubble wand; thanks to the folks who read about someone mentioned in the Joy Letter and they contact them to support, encourage, or buy their wares; thanks to the people who reach out and show love.A few weeks back Cindy my assistant (now back in Germany) was the guest writer for the Joy ezine. She was thankful for her upcoming trip to California. A JOY reader who I have never met in the flesh contacted us and offered Cindy a place to stay and to be her tour guide of San Francisco. That brings me joy! Thank you Teena Miller! For all the stories like this, thank you. One drop of kindness, one drop of love, one drop of understanding. Joy. This is the ocean we create.
