"You did what you knew how to do,and when you knew better, you did better." -Maya Angelou
That quote is scribbled into one of my old journals. I'm going through these treasure troves as I create a new project/product and there is so much great material! Quotes from others and my own musings fuel me on. Looking back on my growth these past years is enlightening and encouraging.
When people ask me if "this stuff" that I teach really works, and I can answer wholeheartedly: Absolutely! I am living proof that joy can be a foundation for life. When I was younger I didn't understand that life was a journey, with lots of twists and turns. I assumed it was a track and once we got on one particular track, that's it.
Now I get it and I am grateful that I can switch tracks! This journey is really incredible and it's DAILY. There is no big dreamy down-the-road occurrence that is the focal point. It's the right here, right now. My journey, and my joy, is comprised of a whole long string of TODAYs.
I could say that JOY is the journey of me, but that makes the acronym JOM. ;) I love to share "this stuff" with you so that you too can come to believe that your life is constantly evolving and you can choose which path you want to be on. Do you want the moaner-groaner-life-is-so-hard path or life-is-a-series-of-revelations/fun/feeling-pretty-good path?
JOY is Journey of You. You get to decide so much more on this journey that you give yourself credit for - you really do have control over more than you think.
So instead of sitting slumpily on a train car that goes only down that set one-way track, get off. Get in a car that you drive yourself. Every day there will be a crossroads and you get to pick which path you take. (The Dr. Seuss book Oh! The Places You'll Go! just popped into my head. I call it required reading.)
Don't berate yourself for the past wrong turns or for letting someone else be driver. That was then, this is now. You did the best you could at that time. Now, you know better. Now, you do better. Words to Ponder: "With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street." Dr. Seuss
