Welcome Summer!
School ending is what declares summer for me, not the date on the calendar. My guys are done with the school year (one is really done, high school is now history, and he is a College Boy; other boy is now a Senior and he will start deciding his college choice soon.)
The end of the school year is busy and with a graduation even more so. So with the arrival of summer, it is time to relax and enjoy. Some of you may be like me and have to tell yourself to relax. I felt that I was whirring around the last few months so taking a pause is a conscious choice and a welcomed change.
Prince Charming and I recently bought a "fire pot" for our tiny deck. We sit outside evenings, look at the stars and watch the small flame dance in its ceramic pot. I love it. When it's time to go in, we just put the cap on.
Ah, summer. I don't want every moment to be so jam-packed with activity that there is no time to sit and just be. Certainly I want to do all the fun-in-the-sun stuff, and all the chores that have waited for warm weather, like organizing the garage. But I also want to take time to reflect on all that is good and well. Somehow, a dark deck with nothing but stars and a flickering flame help take me to that place inside that wells up with gratitude.
Whatever summer holds for you, welcome it. Open up your arms wide and stand in the wind. Close your eyes and feel the breeze try to knock you over. It is trying to get your attention. We only have so many summers. Don't let this one get away without taking the time to enjoy it, the big events and the little daily joys.
Welcome yourself to the day before you. Welcome, Summer.
