People sometimes ask me, "So this stuff ("stuff" meaning science of happiness/law of attraction) really works?"
My reply: Yep. Try it for yourself.
If we are what we eat, we get what we think.
We have to choose and we have to practice, but wow, the results. We make our own luck. I know it to be true in my own life, and in the feedback I get from readers/attendees to my programs. But many need "scientific proof."
Richard Wiseman (great name) did a ten-year study of 400 people age 18 to 84, male and female, from all walks of life. In a nutshell, those who considered themselves lucky were indeed lucky. He states: "Lucky people get that way via some basic principles -- seizing chance opportunities; creating self-fulfilling prophecies through positive expectations; and adopting a resilient attitude. Unlucky people miss chance opportunities because they're too busy looking for something else."
The wise man created a set of experiments "examining whether thought and behavior can enhance good fortune."
He outlined the main principles of luck, and described techniques designed to help participants react like lucky people: "how to be more open to opportunities around them, how to break routines, and how to deal with bad luck by imagining things being worse. They were asked to carry out specific exercises for a month and then report back.
"The results were dramatic: 80 percent were happier and more satisfied with their lives -- and luckier. One unlucky subject said that after adjusting her attitude -- expecting good fortune, not dwelling on the negative -- her bad luck had vanished."
Read the article here.
Do you believe that adjusting your attitude can change your luck? Try it and see.
Words to Ponder:
I'm the luckiest gal/guy in the world!

JOY DROPPINGS |
What brings me JOY lately...
* Kurt on Glee; Travis on Cougar Town (been catching up on old DVR'd episodes)
* Rockford Christian taking 3rd in state basketball
* When Andrew Epperson is announced, the fans chant "Eppy" --- an uninitiated attendee thought they were saying "Happy" :) That works too.
* Having TWO dryers
* Having a guy who knows how to hook up appliances
* Having a guy who cooks, buys me roses, and can fix the toilet
* Gum
* Music, Music, Music
* Hair stylists who fix self-help scissorists like me
* A massage table gifted to us
* Highlighters
* Books, books, books
* Running water, electricity, food, being able to go outside and breathe, knowing where my loved ones are... grateful for everything in my life. My heart goes out to Japan. My column that runs now in papers talks about doing one small thing. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Reminder: Send in your Joy Droppings for compilation book to come out end of year. |
