One of my mentors is Jan Phillips, an artist, writer, musician, photographer, philanthropist and founder of the lovingkindness foundation. (Check it out.) She wrote this Morning Prayer and gave me permission to share it with you.

Who ever knows

what the silent soul came to say?
All our lives

the time we have to sing its song

gets spent on everything but.

We're captured by capitalism,

imprisoned by consumerism,

silenced by the self-loathing

we learn from commercials

not good enough

not young enough

not pretty enough

not thin enough

not light enough

not dark enough

never right - can't be

or the economy would fall apart.

What if we thought we were perfect

AS IS

didn't need the products and fixes

streaming our way day and night

what if we settled into our divinity

once and for all

spoke it, sang it, shared it

with the world

Would wars end then?

Would we care for the children then?

Would we create a nation, a culture

that wasn't an embarrassment to our very souls?

I'll start right now by saying

I am full of Light

and so are you.

Will you let it out please?

Will you shine yourself

into this darkness?

Words to Ponder:

I am full of Light and so are you.
Let your light shine. Let your light light up others.

 Testimonial

The JOY letter was forwarded to a young woman who has just learned that she has breast cancer. This is what she wrote to Kathy B, who sent her the "Live the Joy" ezine:

"...for everything that I have read about trying to keep my spirits up, this is the most entertaining and realistic!  Humor has always been my coping mechanism so I'm always looking for funny things that I can relate to!  Like you, I am terrible at writing in a journal but that didn't stop several of my friends giving me many of them when they heard.  Perhaps I will give it another try.  I really liked the idea of writing down the things that made me happy/smile today.  I have to admit, I smiled when I read her list.  Sometimes that's all that it takes is one smile!
I will sign up for this mailing list for sure. "  Erin D, St. Louis, MO

THANK YOU to all JOY spreaders. Please keep spreading joy your own way, you never know the impact you have.

 JOY of expression!

FROM JESSE KUNTZ, Director of "Rockford Follies"
a fundraiser for Rockford Dance Company, a local non-profit school:

"A "Last Chance" audition Sunday, January 23rd at Kresge Hall at the Discovery Center Museum from 11:00am to 1:00pm. I am really trying to foster some collaboration between the different parts of the arts communities.

What we are looking for:

Actors
Singers
Dancers
Funny songs (If any bands have parody songs or just humorous songs in general I would love to hear them in person or electronically)
Funny acts (any improv/comedy groups)

If people have something prepared they can bring it; if they don't we'll have scripts and material available for them at the audition. This is a volunteer possibility but it is free exposure for people to a segment of Rockford they may never cross paths with.

The performance will be February 26th at 8:00pm at The Coronado.

I really want this event to be cross-community. In the past it has just been lawyers ... and this year, we're shaking it up.

Thanks,
Jesse

"You may not be able to control the events that occur during the day, especially those events that are unexpected and challenging. But, you definitely have a choice whether you are going to allow these events to ruin your day, and how you are going to face these challenges."
