What the world needs now is love, sweet love.
The Free Hugs experiment was a success. I'll write more later, but know that the gesture was well-received and the Huggers had a lot of fun. (Some passerby huggees asked if they could hug with us too. Of course! We scribbled some more signs and away we hugged!)
Some Happiness Clubbers who came only to give candy joined in too: "I surprised myself that I enjoyed hugging total strangers!"
We did, however, "get busted." Mall Security asked if we had permit. A permit to hug? Oh, don't get me started.
Mall Manager Mark was gracious and kind and supportive, but we have to go through the corporate channels. I have met with him again, and yes he accepted a hug, and we are working on a February date to give hugs for all those who think Valentines Day is a downer. Stay tuned.
For now, give someone a hug. You have my permission.

I have some great video footage, but having trouble editing clips to upload. Next week! (All I want for Christmas is a tech guy!)

Words to Ponder:
Give love.

JOY DROPPINGS
What brings me JOY lately....
  • First born son, the One-Nut Wonder, is back in action and bowled his first 300 game ever last week. (For you non-bowlers, that is a perfect game, all strikes)
  • Second born son, who thanks for me everything; every meal cooked (even if it's just grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup), every item bought for him, every dollar given to him. He always always always thanks me.
  • Cards and letters and sillies and love in my Money & Love box.
  • Money in my Money & Love box.
  • The clerks at the Loves Park post office. I visit them as often as I open my Money & Love Box. They are ALWAYS kind, helpful, and cheerful. To me "going postal" has a good connotation.

  • A house of night owls. Up late wrapping gifts, the front door opens way after midnight, more teenage boys enter to join the crew downstairs. I went to bed at 3:30 am; they were still up.
  • Cookies
  • Italian berry champagne on the house at the fake Paris cafe
  • Best steak I ever had at the fake Paris cafe (Rue La Paris)
  • Being told the dishwasher would work better if we DON'T rinse the dishes first. He was right.
  • Flannel sheets
  • Everyone understanding that pizza still tastes the same even if it was dropped upside down when trying to open the door

 What I like about ME
JOY Journal= daily joy droppings, quotes that speak to you, books you want to read, movies you want see, songs that grab you, things you want to do, AND "Things I Like About Me." The greater your self-confidence and like of self, the greater your level of happiness. What I like about me...

* I learn something new every day.

* I am getting better at saying no. I am getting better at saying yes.

* My ears stick out a little bit, but so do elves' and elves like to spread joy. So I am okay with sticky-outey ears. I must be part elf.

One of my joys is travel....

 ITALY!

May 4-11, 2011

Lago Maggiore

One week = the trip of a lifetime!

Find Your Muse, A week of creative expression in Northern Italy

Here is a blurb from Holly, the travel agent who arranged all the details. She has connections:

We'll spend all seven nights at the same hotel -- you unpack once. The property is so beautiful and charming and it sits right on the lake. This is the village where my husband, Luigi, grew up so we are very familiar with the area.

Lago Maggiore is about 40 miles long; we'll take a boat ride out to one of the large islands, Isola Bella: gorgeous terraced gardens, white peacocks roaming around, and a beautiful palazzo that you can tour.

We'll motorcoach to Lake Orta, west of Lake Maggiore. It's a little jewel just eight miles long and less than two miles wide. It has a tiny island, home to an ancient basilica and a more modern convent. Also, the village surrounding it is so much fun to explore, and walk around.

Another day we take a boat ride up Lake Maggiore to the town of Cannobio where there is a fabulous outdoor market: every kind of food imaginable plus shoes, clothing, wonderful leather bags, linens, etc. The town itself is beautiful and right on the lake too.

We also will take a boat ride up the Lake to the town of Ascona, Switzerland -- another charming place with a beautiful promenade on the lake. One day we'll ferry across the lake and then motorcoach up into the mountains for lunch at an old farmhouse with spectacular views!

A blurb from Kelly: WOW! I am excited!
