Thought control.

Think of your brain like your email inbox. A lot of stuff comes flying in there, all day every day, non stop. Some is good stuff, some is great stuff, some is bad bad bad.

We have a filter to catch some of the junk. Then we also have to manually go through the rest. Some stuff we can see from the subject line that it is not worth reading. Some emails we have to glance at to see if it's a keeper or not. Some are delightful gems.

Thoughts bombard your brain like all those emails. Some do not deserve a millisecond of our time. Just because a thought pops into my head does not mean it has any cred.

If I paid attention to every email, I'd be certain that someone right now is searching for me, that I need bigger breasts and a hip replacement recall. If I paid attention to every thought that bounced into my head, I'd be quite a mixed up mess.

Treat your brain like a thought inbox. Automatically filter out the crap. Don't give time or consideration to thoughts that are JUNK.

Sift through and only keep the good ones. File them in the folders in your brain. You only have so much storage space. Don't fill it with negative junk. Let the thoughts of fear, worry, and negativity float right on out of your head. Grab and hold the positive, loving, encouraging, peaceful, optimistic thoughts.

Just like the mandate for a home, apply the same logic to your inner being: Only keep what is useful or beautiful. All the other stuff: Let it go!

Words to Ponder:

Hold that thought.

JOY DROPPINGS
What brings me JOY lately....

* Not sure if any relation to Oscar>>>

* Hearing from you, especially sharing three things you like about YOU. You are FUN. Guys are getting in the game too. One fella likes that is he nearing retirement and in pretty good shape. Another dude likes that he celebrated his 50th birthday in Vegas and his Levi's are back down to 28 waist, one inch different from high school. (Holy crap! Let me go get a tape measure and measure one of my thighs.)

* Poetry! If a 3-year old can dig Billy Collins, maybe you can give it a whirl. The Billy himself version is fun too.  (Thanks to Wilda Morris, Poet Extraordinaire of Bolingbrook, IL for sharing!)

* New friends. If you heard I was hosting a young gal from Pakistan, what would you expect her to be like? If you said: Smart, funny, loves music, shoes, and American Halloween, you would be right!
Read how she talks about our FUN:

* pumpkins

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT ME:
The JOY Journal holds your daily joy droppings, quotes that speak to you, books you want to read, movies you want see, songs that grab you, things you want to do, AND "Things I Like About Me."
The more you do it, the easier it gets.

What I like about me...

* I have a new SOUL. Its speakers light up and pulse to the beat.

* I have an old soul.

* I light up and dance to the beat.
Beauty's where you find it

STICKY NOTES!

Cleaning my office yielded many treasures, one of which is my old sticky note telling me "I'M AWESOME!" (Remember that column?)

Our Sticky Note Brigade is not a one-shot deal. Whenever you are feeling a low moment, write yourself an encouraging note. Then write another and put it somewhere for someone else to find. Do it for those in your life and do it for strangers. A random sticky note in a public place is not my idea. I read it in a magazine, and I keep reading of others doing it all across the country. Let's be encouragers and joy spreaders all the time, all the places we travel. I keep a thing of sticky notes in my car. And a pink marker.

YOU are awesome!

Sweetest Day was October 16. I just learned that it started in the 1920's as a way to spread cheer. NOW you tell me!
I like that notion. Spreading cheer needs to be a daily deal. I hereby proclaim today and every day SWEETEST DAY! Cheers!

Kelly's newspaper column -
Love the fall

YES, it's true. I traded my smartcar for a new SOUL. More on that next week. For now, a teaser:

You Tube junkie

As much as I want to keep UNDER PRESSURE (homeless guy with Kermit puppets) up here forever, change is good for the soul.

Neon Trees "Animal" is so totally (like, totally, y'know) 80s sounding, plus I do the hand dance out the window in the wind AND I support twinkle lights in the car. I give it up two snaps up in a circle.

(Sundus! - It just occured to me that this sounds a bit like Keane. What ya think?)

WORD NERD

lucifugous \loo-see-FOO-guhs\, adjective:

Avoiding light.

Lucifugous combines two Latin roots, luci-, "light," and fugere, "to flee."

Maybe on Halloween you want to be lucifugous. Glow sticks are more fun in the dark.
