Flowers or weeds?

As I take my morning walks, I carry nothing. No phone. No iPod. No camera. There are many times I wish I had my Kodak, especially when the roadside flowers were in full bloom.

I also sometimes wish for a notebook to jot down the ideas that formulate in my head as I stride. I would stick a note to the lady on the corner a couple blocks over for her gorgeous backyard flower display. Note to self: jot a note now, deliver it tomorrow.

The wildflowers along the paved path are beautiful. The thistles that grow tall and sprout purple blooms are gorgeous flowers too.

What starts out prickly, can indeed turn beautiful if you give it a chance to grow. We all have thorns and defense mechanisms. Some of us may feel that we got plucked before we reached our full potential. The thing with thistles is that they are persistent, they can grow in hard places and they always come back.

No matter what has trampled you down, you are still growing. You can bounce back. You can be tough, but you don't have hurt the people who want to touch you. You can let yourself be fed and let yourself thrive, even in tough conditions.

You can stand tall and become a flower. A strong stalk, a beautiful bloom. What you once thought was a weed is indeed a flower. Flowers can't hide their beauty. Embrace it.

 WHAT I LIKE ABOUT ME:
For those new to the JOY letter, every night you are to jot down three things in your joy journal that made you smile/brought you peace/made you laugh/made you glow with appreciation/went your way.
ALSO you need to think of three things you like about yourself. Liking yourself and loving yourself leads to true internal happiness. Happiness has to come from within.

Let's see.... what I like about me...

* Healthy eyes

* I practice good oral hygiene

* I know how many licks it takes to get the center of a Tootsie Pop

  interlard \in-tuhr-LARD\, transitive verb:

To insert between; to mix or mingle; especially, to introduce something foreign or irrelevant into; as, "to interlard a conversation with oaths or allusions."

 Interlard comes from Middle French entrelarder, from Old French, from entre, "between" (from Latin inter-) + larder, "to lard," from larde, "lard," from Latin lardum. The original sense of the word, now obsolete, was "to place lard or bacon amongst; to mix, as fat meat with lean."

I think it's a noun: The interlard in my thighs seems to be here to stay.
