Summer storms are awesome.

I had been watching the storm and reveling in its power. At 3 am, I went to bed and my son came up for towels: "Mom, we have water in the basement."

A litle hassle, expense, and stench, but my sons impressed me with their take-charge attitude of cutting up and hauling out of the stinky stuff. The mess launched an overall cleanup of our whole place, not just the basement. It's fun the things you find.

Now I'm cleaning up my Inbox. A hodge podge of stuff, a bit of inspiration, a little something for everyone.

Let a summer storm sweep away, and reveal.

JOY

From JOY reader/spreader/funny writer/pastor's wife/cool lady Lois Swagerty in California when I wrote that I need to be able to tell a joke:

(Lois got this from her 80-year old neighbor)

a man was standing in line in the bank when a masked robber came in, walked up to the counter and demanded money.

suddenly, his mask slipped. he put it back up, then turned to the guy on his right and said, did you see my face? yes. bang, he shot him.

he turned to the man on his left and said, did you see my face? yes. bang, he shot him.

he turned to the man behind him and said, did you see my face?

no, but my wife did!

punchline to remember: no, but my wife did!

(Lois, when the comments come rolling in, we'll direct them to your neighbor ;)

JOY Reader Gloriann Dawson wrote this:
I need to tell you a story about Lago Maggiore.
Remember the actor Troy Donahue?  Probably his most notable movie was Rome Adventure with Suzanne Pleshette.  Some of it was filmed in Lago Maggiore.

Back in the 70's, Troy was a neighbor of mine when I lived in Atlanta.  We became very good friends. He talked often of Lago Maggiore.  He said that he felt that was as close to God as you could get without dying and going to heaven.   That was his most favorite place on earth. He returned there several times.

Three or four years before he died, he was in Rockford and we spent some time together.  Again he spoke of Laga Maggiore. He wished we could have gone there together so I could see it through his eyes.  One of the last things he said to me was, "If I die, I hope God sends me back to Lago Maggiore. My spirit will be free there."

I would give my soul to go there on that trip with you next year. If only to walk where my dear friend's spirit is.  That would be a joy uncontained for me.

THANK YOU Gloriann for that amazing story. Bless you my dear.
