July 22 was national hammock day.

Hammock is not a lovely sounding word to say, but a hammock is a lovely thing. It should be called a lolly. I just want to lolly around in a bedswing where I can read, day dream, or snooze.

A hammock, excuse me, a lolly, is a respite from the world, a cocoon of peace and solitude. (You can share your lolly if you want to.)

Go to the bedswing in your mind and close your eyes. Feel the breeze as it rustles the pages of the book now splayed face down on your belly. Listen to the far off drone of a lawn mower. Smell the faint scent of the garden, the peonies, the charcoal grill of a neighbor. Lick your lips and taste the last trace of the ice cream cone you just indulged in. Open your eyes and see nothing but a green canopy of lush leaves overhead, and clouds, shaped as animal crackers, parading across the powder blue sky.

Every day, all year, take a moment to enjoy the lolly in your mind.

Words to Ponder:

"Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."
--Louisa May Alcott

Research shows that the best/fastest/longest lasting way to boost your mood and overall happiness quotient is to practice gratitude.
Let's start an epidemic.

"You teach gratitude to others by living it - every moment, every hour, every day. Others will see the happiness that gratitude brings, and soon, they too will be grateful. And before you know it, you have started an epidemic of gratitude - what could be more wonderful!"

morganatic \mawr-guh-NAT-ik\, adjective:

Of or pertaining to a form of marriage in which a person of high rank, as a member of the nobility, marries someone of lower station with the stipulation that neither the low-ranking spouse nor their children, if any, will have any claim to the titles or entailed property of the high-ranking partner.

Jeepers. That's romantic.

IN MY LIFE
Lennon & McCartney

There are places I'll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all
