What song will be played for you?

Several months ago, reader Patty Russ wrote to me:

"Thought you'd enjoy this ~  I went to a funeral this week.  I only remotely knew the deceased.  She was 93, sharp as a tack and just renewed her drivers license so she could get her hair done and go to the grocery store.

At the end of the funeral service, as the casket was wheeled down the aisle, at her very specific request the entire church sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" TWICE.  (She was a long suffering Cubs fan.) It brought lots of laughs as young and old alike sang their loudest, accompanied by the organ naturally.

This is not the first time I've witnessed this.  My Uncle had everyone sing "Happy Trails" because he always said he wanted to be a cowboy."

Patty and I discussed what songs we would request to celebrate our life. She thinks maybe she'll go with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Me? My pick changes daily. If I die this week, let's go with Partridge Family's "Come on, Get Happy." Or maybe Collin Raye's "Love Remains." Or maybe Wham, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go."

Life does come with a soundtrack. What's yours?

(Thank you, Patty.)

Words to Ponder~

We all live, we all die,
But the end is not goodbye.
The sun comes up, the seasons change,
Through it all, love remains.
An eternal burning flame,
Hope lives on, and love remains.

In the privacy of my car, I belt out the Edith Piaf French version, Non je ne regrette rien. (The French is the original and you get the feel even if you don't understand a word of it.)

"We touch the lives of others in ways we often never know. People sometimes come into our personal world for fleeting moments and can leave us forever changed. We have more power to create or to destroy than we can imagine. We can leave things or individuals better or worse than we found them."

~Gail Pursell Elliott
