Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Lend Me Your Ears!

First off, a hearty WELCOME to the influx of new readers to the JOY letter!

Please note, I'm having some odd technical difficulties, thus this missive will be brief this week, and if the graphics do not come through, I think the trouble is on this end. No worries, we'll get it figured out. (Fairy Godmother, please bring me a techie person! And if he happens to be hunky and have a Scottish accent, all the better. ;)

My week has blipped by in a blur. Lots of good stuff, but the item begging for me to talk about is the Happiness Club. It's gonna stick.

The May meeting had another full house. We had a wonderful time of sharing and learning from each other. The positive energy in the room was inspiring and uplifting. If you are local, I encourage you to check it out. First Thursday of every month, North Suburban Library (6340 N. Second St., Loves Park, IL). If you are not local, I encourage you to start a Happiness Club in your area. No experience necessary.Check out www.happinessclub.com and www.americanhappiness.org, and www.aath.org.

The point of the club is for happy people to meet and interact with like-minded souls, and for not-so-happy folks to discover that they can learn how to become happier. It's a process, and many people reported noticeable changes in their outlook in just one month!

If you want more information, drop me a line.

Words to Ponder~

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
~Herman Cain
Lyrics to love

"I'm 45 for a moment...."

100 Years
John Ondrasik, Five For Fighting

When this song was played (way too much) on the radio, I didn't appreciate it. Now I do. I played it over and over for each son on the 15th birthdays. "I'm 15 for a moment, caught in between 10 and 20..." I hope to have 100 years to live. I'm predicting 108 for me. But it's a crap shoot.

Right now I'm 45 and  I want to enjoy the moment. And the piano man John, who lives his joy and strives to leave the world a better place. Time is fleeting. We've only got 100 years to live.

Every day's a new day...
 good for the soul

Precisely the least, the softest, lightest, a lizard's rustling,
a breath, a flash, a moment - a little makes the way
of the best happiness.
-   Frederich Nietzsche, Thus Spake Zarathustra
Picks this week

Book Pick -    Skim recipe books and try a new recipe this week

Flick Pick -    A Broadway musical

Your JOY assignment this week:

Practice random acts of kindness.

To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take
nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind
that will stand behind the action.  Nothing that is done for you
is a matter of course.  Everything originates in a will for the
good, which is directed at you.  Train yourself never to put off
the word or action for the expression of gratitude.
-  Albert Schweitzer

Inquiring Minds

The question was....

Mickey Mouse
or
Mighty Mouse

MICKEY was the winner. I thought Mighty would get a better showing.
One reader expressed beautifully:
I love Walt Disney, so Mickey Mouse it is.  I have a 3 foot picture of Mickey Mouse on the wall in front of my computer.  I'm 37 years old and still love the animated films.  Disney reminds us that many things are possible...animals can talk, you can fly if you think of happy thoughts, discrimination is learned and not a way of life(hello...a fox and a hound got along fine) and trials and tribulations can be overcome with some hope and working together.  Who wouldn't want to live like that?
 (thank you, Tammie Sonneson)
