Lighten up, Francis...

We've been quoting that line from "Stripes" for as long as I can remember. (And Bill Murray's classic: Chicks dig me because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual.)

The days are lighter; my office is lighter (paint color "Poetic Light" complete with glitter thrown on one wall. Thanks, HandyFriend, for your assistance); and the mood is lighter.

There will always be piles of laundry, bills to pay, and something sticky in the fridge. But for today, I don't let it get to me. That's life.

And when I do succumb to worrying about stupid stuff that I have no control over or feel annoyed by my fellow humans (it happens), I read my post-it note:

Words to Ponder~
"What will be, will be, grumble who may."
~Anne Boleyn
Lyrics to love
Kiss Me, I'm Irish
I am the wild rover
My eyes they are smiling
and I'm seldom sober
I like my whiskey
and I love to dance
so if you're feeling as lucky as me
then take a chance
and kiss me I'm Irish

ELVIS WISHES YOU A HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

The King was in the St. Patrick's Day parade in Ireland.
I recently read that:

Elvis Presley wore a cross, a star of David, and the Hebrew letter chi. He explained his jewelry habit with, "I don't want to miss out on heaven due to a technicality."

Inquiring Minds

 The question was....
Inquiring minds want to know:
Do you enjoy a pint of Guinness?

Most responses were a hearty YES. See you at the pubs. One nay was sort of a yes; from Cindy Lynn: "Can't drink a pint of Guinness, it's a little too rich for me, but my great canine nephew is named Guinness and I love him, does that count for something?"

Reminder to Illinois locals, mark your datebooks for Thursday, April 1, the launch of the Happiness Club in Loves Park. These clubs meet all over the USA and the world. I have received encouraging emails from as far away as the Happiness Club in Jerusalem. Yep, that brings me joy.

FIRST "HAPPINESS CLUB" IN ILLINOIS LAUNCHES IN LOVES PARK
APRIL 1 @ 7 PM-8:30 PM
NORTH SUBURBAN LIBRARY
6340 N. SECOND ST.,  LOVES PARK IL

Want to live longer, have less stress, and experience better relationships? Choose to be happy. Even if you were not born with the "joy gene," you can LEARN how to be happy. Happiness does not have to be fleeting. It can be sustained throughout your whole life, no matter your challenges or circumstances.

Kelly Epperson (writer/speaker/joy fairy), member of AHA (American Happiness Association) and AATH (Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor), states Happiness Clubs have been in existence across the US for nearly 20 years. The Loves Park chapter is the first in Illinois. "You will learn tools and tips to use to cultivate inner happiness that lasts even when external events throw you a curveball. Happiness Clubs are a place for happy people and wannabe-happy people to learn the science of happiness. Yes, you can TEACH happiness techniques, just like teaching someone how to hit a golf ball. Some folks are naturals; for some, it takes a little practice."

The first meeting is Thursday, April 1 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the North Suburban Library community room (6340 N. Second St., Loves Park). Meetings are free ($5 donation requested to cover room rental, refreshments, handouts) and open to all. "This is not a religious thing or a dating thing. It is simply an opportunity to enrich your life." For more information, contact Kelly Epperson at 815-871-7864 or kel_epperson@yahoo.com.

Rapscallion (noun)

Pronunciation: [rp-'skl-yn]

Definition: Rascal, brat, hooligan.

Suggested Usage: Today's word is perfect for those occasions when you need to express the notion of "rascal" but want take a bit longer saying it, "The neighborhood rapscallions regularly larded the windows of all the cars on our street Halloween night when I was a kid." Although no noun is widely used currently, "rapscallionry" has enough lexical music to recommend itself for broader deployment: "Fifty years of exquisite rapscallionry had left Siegfried a lonely man-happy, but lonely."

Etymology: Variation of earlier "rascallion" from "rascal" + a fanciful suffix. "Rascal" is from Old French rascaille (Modern French racaille "rabble, riffraff), probably based on rasque "mud" or rache "scurf, rash" whence English "rash." French "rache" was spun from Old French rasche "scurf," the noun from raschier "to scratch" itself a child of Vulgar Latin *rasicare "scratch." This verb, in its turn, emerged from "rasus," the participle of radere "to scrape."

-Dr. Language, YourDictionary.

The rapscallions were out in full force on St. Pat'es Eve in Ireland. It was like New Year's Eve....

Did you know...

When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it seems like two minutes. When you sit on a hot stove for two minutes, it seems like two hours. That's relativity.
