Greetings one and all!

"Your email address has brought you luck."  Do you get those junk emails? I get a gazillion every day. However, I am here to tell you (my dearest ones) that email - this email -  can indeed bring you luck. and joy.  Cuz it's ours to make.

It's a thrill (er, joy) to hear from you who bubble over with good things now that you are practicing positivity. Work is going better, love life is going better, finances are going better, simply because there has been a shift in attitude.

Becoming aware of the little things that go your way, jotting in the joy journal, taking time to breathe, are simple ways that pay off in an improved way of living, a new way of being.

SmartJim of Woodridge laminated a strip of wisdom from a fortune cookie and carries it in his wallet. "A purpose is the eternal condition for success."

I was on a call with Dr. Aymee Coget this week, (she's co-founder of American Happiness Association) and she says that finding our purpose and living according to that purpose gives our lives meaning. Isn't that what we all want?

Right here, right now, my purpose is to make you smile, laugh, and be encouraged. And to get you thinking about what brings you joy. (and maybe something about the joy of cupcakes....)

Words to Ponder~

You are free to invent your life.

(that's the fortune I carry in my purse)
(i didn't laminate it though)

JOY SPREADERS

What brings YOU joy?

From Lois Christian:

Spring...The squeak of the swing set....Flocks of geese flying close and all you hear is the air move with their wings.....Cardinals courting their possible mate and announcing their territory.....Sunshine, dark blue skies with a few white billowy clouds forming shapes

FROM TANYA EDMUNDSON:
Vick's Vapor Rub
my dog
bananas (my kids love them)
sunshine
YOU

(*FYI Tanya, I love Vick's Vapor Rub and YOU too!)

In the midst of pain and fear, a sense of humor goes a long way to help the healing process. This is from Lois Swagerty in Carlsbad, CA:

Doctor says he got all the basal cell skin cancer on my nose today. After 7 hours and 4 rounds of surgery...

Size? take a quarter, put it over your nose and wrap it around to both sides, extend it out a little farther on the right, and you will have an idea of the size of my crater, just slightly smaller than Crater Lake.

Color? black and white and red all over, just like the old riddle. Yes, there is exposed cartilage.

Scent?  Eau de burnt flesh from the cauterization.

Can I still pick my nose? They had to go pretty deep, but thankfully, I still have the tip of the nose and my nostrils.  Also, I still have the bridge which means I can wear my glasses, which means I can see--a good thing.

The worst part? A toss-up between the local anesthetic shots and being trapped in the lounge watching Dr. Phil.

Inquiring Minds

The question was:

Do you still buy CDs or do you download?

The old school contingent spoke up and CDs won by a landslide. I'm not the only one who likes to read the lyrics and liner notes.
I do download too but I buy the whole CD and not just the song that led me there. You never know what unexpected treasures you will discover.

Inquiring minds want to know:
...off to Ireland..... we'll play again soon..........

FIRST "HAPPINESS CLUB" IN ILLINOIS LAUNCHES IN LOVES PARK
APRIL 1 @ 7 PM-8:30 PM
NORTH SUBURBAN LIBRARY
6340 N. SECOND ST.,  LOVES PARK IL

Want to live longer, have less stress, and experience better relationships? Choose to be happy. Even if you were not born with the "joy gene," you can LEARN how to be happy. Happiness does not have to be fleeting. It can be sustained throughout your whole life, no matter your challenges or circumstances.

Kelly Epperson (writer/speaker/joy fairy), member of AHA (American Happiness Association) and AATH (Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor), states Happiness Clubs have been in existence across the US for nearly 20 years. The Loves Park chapter is the first in Illinois. "You will learn tools and tips to use to cultivate inner happiness that lasts even when external events throw you a curveball. Happiness Clubs are a place for happy people and wannabe-happy people to learn the science of happiness. Yes, you can TEACH happiness techniques, just like teaching someone how to hit a golf ball. Some folks are naturals; for some, it takes a little practice."

The first meeting is Thursday, April 1 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the North Suburban Library community room (6340 N. Second St., Loves Park). Meetings are free ($5 donation requested to cover room rental, refreshments, handouts) and open to all. "This is not a religious thing or a dating thing. It is simply an opportunity to enrich your life." For more information, contact Kelly Epperson at 815-871-7864 or kel_epperson@yahoo.com.

Word Nerd

Word of the Day: Fricassee (Noun)

Pronunciation: [fri-kê-'see or 'fri-kê-see]

Definition: A dish made of poultry or meat, fresh or leftover, cut into small pieces, sauteed, then stewed in a gravy.

Usage: Today's word is a rare one that contains two contiguous double letters, ss+ee. It is also commonly used as a verb, as Elmer Fudd's perennial attempts to fricassee the ever elusive Bugs Bunny.

Suggested Usage: Today's word is used almost exclusively to refer to a cooking style: "Molly had to rename the 'Roadkill Fricassee' on her menu because her patrons were never quite sure it was a joke."

Etymology:  French past participle, "fricassee," from fricasser "to fricassee." The French verb probably comes from a compound of frire "to fry" + casser "to break up, break apart."

-Dr. Language, yourDictionary.com

Simply a fric-in fun word to say.
Smile

From Liz Gobin:
(who warns this may be too risque for joy letter)
I work with second graders and we have a LOT of laughs .... last week we were reading Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (who has amazing solutions to people's problems) a boy's parents came to her for a solution for their son Dick, who was extremely selfish (something all students can relate to)  ... we read all about what a selfish boy Dick was and all the ways he displayed this nasty habit ... Mrs. Piggle Wiggle comes up with ingenious solution ... at the end of the story we always talk about "the big idea" - what did the author want us to learn from this story? ... one little boy blurted out "Don't be a selfish Dick!"

Ah, words to live by.

From Nan Mudloff:
My husband bought me a Victoria's Secrets nightgown printed with floating feathers on it.  He and my daughter say I wake up sitting on a feather.

I've read we all swallow dozens of tiny spiders in our sleep.  The other morning I woke up with an itchy eyelid - perhaps a little spider bite.  I hope I ate it.

:-) I've never heard anyone actually wanting to eat a spider. You guys make me smile.

A grasshopper can leap over obstacles 500 times its own height. In relation to its size, it has the greatest jumping ability of all creatures.

watching David Lee Roth jump is campy fun too.
