FIND YOUR JOY! NOVEMBER 20, 2009 |
|
|
Your job for today and the rest of 2009: Just breathe.
Abe Lincoln is attributed the quote: "With the fearful strain that is on me night and day, if I did not laugh, I should die." Abe was a guy under a lot of stress. He knew the value of laughter.
No matter what is weighing on you, take a moment RIGHT NOW to breathe in deeply and slowly exhale. We all have our stresses and the holidays can magnify that. Open your mouth a tiny bit, lips parted, breathe in again. Blow out the exhale like you are making smoke rings. (Or blowing kisses like Marilyn Monroe.)
NOW you are ready to read the joy letter, and now you are ready to laugh. Or at least smile. That's a start. See where it goes....

For Giggles... |
A precious little girl walks into a pet shop and asks, in the sweetest little lisp, between two missing teeth, "Excuthe me, mithter, do you keep widdle wabbits?"
As the shopkeeper's heart melts, he gets down on his knees so that he's on her level and asks, "Do you want a widdle white wabbit, or a thoft and fuwwy bwack wabbit, or maybe one like that cute widdle bwown wabbit over there?"
She, in turn, blushes, rocks on her heels, puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and says, in a tiny quiet voice, "I don't think my python weally gives a thit."

Word Nerd |
Phantasmagoria (noun)
Pronunciation: [fn-tz-m-'go-ri-y]
Definition: An exhibition or bizarre assemblage of images, usually, that constantly change.
Usage: The adjective is "phantasmagoric" or " phantasmagorical."
Etymology: A name invented for the optical illusions of the magic lantern first exhibited in London in 1802. The origin is hazy. It could be from Greek phantasma "apparition, phantom" + (possibly) agora "assembly, market-place." However, it might just as be a compound of "phantasma" with "gory" and the suffix "-ia," added to make it more haunting and authentic.
-Dr. Language, YourDictionary.com
I love six-syllable words! Way more fun to say PHAN-TAS-MA-GO-RI-CAL than phantasmic or fantastic or "Look at that constantly changing bizarre assemblage of images" or the more oft used, "wow, look at that." |

An email of cute pet pics making the rounds had this line at the bottom:
"Within the heart of every stray lies the singular desire to be loved."

Parting Shot:
"Dancing with Myself" is one of my fave songs ever. Ugly Betty inspired me recently as she swayed to this tune, and the Glee arrangement made Billy Idol proud. (Billy and I talk all the time.) (Seriously, I bet Billy loves that his old song is getting airtime on two major network shows.)
