TGIF.
As a freelancer, I lose track of what day is what, but my boys like Fridays.
I like acronyms.

You're only dancing on this earth for a short time...
So dance your dance loudly, dance it proudly.
Dance with great joy and courage -
and most of all, dance it with love!

The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large. --Confucius

Life is 10% what happens; 90% how we handle it.
We ALL have stress. We ALL have troubles. We ALL have frustrations. As the saying goes, "Put on your big girl panties and deal with it." (Big boy boxers for you.)
Do I have a carefree, easy peasy life? Of course not. Choosing to be positive is a CHOICE. We all have to make that choice every day. Sometimes hourly. But I promise you, it is a choice you will not regret.

"We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirement of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about." ~Charles Kingsley

So the story goes...
A second grader came home from school. "Guess what? We learned how to make babies today."
"That's interesting," her mom said, "how do you make babies?"
"It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'."

Swank (adjective)
Pronunciation: ['swngk]
Definition: (Colloquial) In the US: "luxurious, fashionably elegant," referring to dwellings, restaurants, and the like. In parts of Scotland it means "active, agile." Elsewhere it means "ostentatiously pretentious."
Usage: "Swank" can be a noun, meaning smartness in bearing, or, less politely, a swagger. As an intransitive verb, it means to act pretentiously, to swagger. "Swanky" is an adjective derived from the noun meaning "swaggering, boastful." Of course, where there is a "swanky" there must be a "swankiness."
Suggested Usage: Today's word is used most widely with places like swank hotels and swank restaurants. However, with the suffix -y, it may be used with other words: a swanky car, a swanky outfit for a swank caf.
Etymology: "Swank" appears in 1809 in English with the meaning "to strut."

I bet Hilary Swank's house is the epitome of swankiness. And I also think the opposite of swank is skank so watch for typos. |
Last week's preference poll:
PLANE, TRAIN, OR AUTOMOBILE?
All three received eloquent defense, but the runaway winner by a landslide of votes?
Car
From Reader Susan Hasse: "My first love is the road. If I could figure out how to make a living driving a car around the country I would do it. Road trips are what I live for. Nights in out of the way cheap motels. Powdered sugar donettes and gas station orange juice for breakfast. The road and the sites along the way. The people who want to chat and find out where you've been and where you are going. The little things you see because you are down low and would miss otherwise. I've seen amazing things on the road and gotten to know family and friends better from travelling in cars. ...... But no matter the mode of transportation, I love the people who travel. They are open and friendly and always have some time to chat. That's the best part for me."
Road trip, anyone?

~Oscar Wilde
Today is the birthday of Oscar Wilde. Born in Dublin (you can join me there; see below);died in Paris, buried in Pere Lachaise Cemetery. (Oscar's grave does not get as many visitors as Jim Morrison and I confess I took photos of Jim's and not Oscar's.)
Some delightful Wilde quotes:
"I delight in men over seventy, they always offer one the devotion of a lifetime. " -- "A Woman of No Importance"
"I don't like compliments, and I don't see why a man should think he is pleasing a woman enormously when he says to her a whole heap of things that he doesn't mean." -- "Lady Windermere's Fan"
"Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood." -- "The Sphinx Without a Secret"
