Sometimes, life does stink.
This week has been really difficult. Still, drops of joy have rained on me. I'm grateful.
Words to ponder: Our greatest glory is not in never falling...
but in rising every time we fall... Confucius

joy = music
lyrics to love: | Looking back on the memory of The dance we shared
I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain But I'd of had to miss the dance
~Garth Brooks, The Dance

I have committed myself to joy. I have come to realize that those who make space for joy, those who prefer nothing to joy, those who desire the utter reality, will most assuredly have it. We must not be afraid to announce it to refugees, slum dwellers, saddened prisoners, angry prophets. Now and then we must even announce it to ourselves. In this prison of now, in this cynical and sophisticated age, someone must believe in joy.
- Richard Rohr
I believe in joy.
THANK YOU, Carol A, Freeport

Today's Word: Carfuffle (Noun)
Pronunciation: [kah(r)- or k(r)-'f-fl]
Definition 1: Uproar, agitation, commotion, brouhaha, fuss.
Usage 1: Today's lexical oddity is used mostly in Scotland, home of the most intriguing words in English. It is a colloquial expression, spoken more than written. As a result, no one really knows how it is spelled: "kerfuffle," "curfuffle," and a few others may be found in the Oxford English Dictionary, both with and without the [r]. The Macquarie Australian dictionary adds "kerfoofle," "kafuffle," and "kafoofle."

June 9, 1870 Charles Dickens died. I love the Dickens.
He said, "This is a world of action, and not for moping and droning in."

Joy from readerland:
Life - Click for a short "inspirational" power point from Allen P's sister (IF you want to avoid the swelling melodramatic music, turn speakers off.)
"No hay mal que por bien no viene
(There is nothing bad that isn't followed by something good.)"
-Spanish saying (from Nova of Belvidere)
If I Needed Someone - Two guys sitting in a room with their guitars. I think they are Colin and Tom. Thanks, smartjim.
From Tiffany S, Rockford: My 7 year old, Ian, has lost both of his front teeth. I am always a little shocked when I see the big gap as he's talking, but when he laughs you can see the big gap AND the little gum that is still folded between the front of his teeth. So, he looks like he has a very small pink tooth in the front of his head. It makes me smile every time. Of course - his laughing helps, too!
From Sherry A, Rockford: "What brings me joy... my beautiful little granddaughter Kayla, she's 3 1/2 years old and the absolute light of her grandma's life. It's amazing how she helps me keep things in perspective... why worry when you can go down a twirly slide!"
(Amen! I have a play date coming up with my childhood bestfriend. We used to swing our worries away. We're gonna try it now. And I think I'll join her two little girls on the twirly slide too.)
The Paradox of Living. "Strong enough to be open, successful enough to fail, wise enough to say I don't know, serious enough to laugh, planned enough to be spontaneous, controled enough to be flexible, knowledgeable enough
to ask questions, responsible enough to play, assurred enough to be
rejected, industrious enough to relax, leading enough to serve." ~Anon.

TWO WOLVES
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.
"One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
"The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

"Every poem, every page of fiction I have written, has been written with anxiety, occasionally panic, always uncertainty about its reception. Every life decision I have made--from changing jobs, to changing partners, to changing homes--has been taken with trepidation. I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me." - Erica Jong
