Issue #30!
Anything ending with a zero or five in our culture is a milestone. (Don't ask me why.) Anyone care to join me in celebrating? Cake? Cupcakes? Cake and cupcakes?

I write to you from California. Here on a book project for a ghostwriting client. Lux accomodations. They also arranged for daily sunshine, blue skies, and flowers in bloom for me.

Now I just have to get my work done....

Words to ponder:
 "We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us."
~Joseph Campbell

Joy = Writing

Gloria Steinem said, "Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else."

I can dig it. I'm discovering that I love certain kinds of writing more than others. This kind of writing right here = fun. ;)

Joy = healthyrockford.com

Those who know my eating habits may find it amusing that I am the newest blogger for www.healthyrockford.com

They did not hire me for my nutritional expertise, but for my "joy."

I get to chat about PMA - postitive mental attitude - sort of like what I do here and in my column. My debut post was on wearing pretty undies.

My blogs there will show up a couple times a week and occasionally in the Rockford Register Star.

Joy = Wisdom

Plenty of people miss their share of happiness,
not because they never found it,
but because they didn't stop to enjoy it.
--William Feather

The work of your heart, the work of taking time to listen, to help, is also your gift to the whole of the world.

-Jack Kornfield

One Vegas trip done and gone. Hanging in Cali now. Wish me luck on getting this book done.

Then home for a day for APRIL 1 JOY workshop at RVC. YAY!

And then Vegas again for a conference for AATH, the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. Yep, getting credentialed in humor. And in my grand plan - becoming a CLL, a Certified Laughter Leader.

Joy = Reader Response
Last week, I included the quote:

What is better than wisdom? Woman.
What is better than a good woman? Nothing.
~Geoffrey Chaucer

The reply that made me smile:
What is better than wisdom? Who can be wise enough to know?
What is better than a good woman? A BAD one.
~Mally Perkins

Joy = Dancing to the oldies
Dena in Kansas wrote:
"Joy is my new iPod and being able to download any song I want from iTunes! Dancing around the room listening to songs I hadn't heard in a while (Bee Gee's, Irene Cara, Michael Jackson, Sister Sledge, KC and the Sunshine Band, Gap Band - my High Energy playlist to work out with) I thought to myself, what Joy!"

Amen!

We were on the same wave - I wrote my column this week on "I love technology."

Yikes

Joy is NOT old guys doing swimsuit calendars............

thanks, Aunt Kathie, for the calendar boy pics

Joy = Barbie Doll

Barbie hit the big 5-0 this month. According to the Writers Almanac, the history of Barbie goes like this:
"A woman named Ruth Handler noticed that when her daughter, Barbara, played with dolls, she liked to give them adult roles. Ruth's husband, Elliot, was the co-founder of a small toy manufacturer named Mattel. Ruth suggested Mattel make an adult doll for children to play with, but he thought it would be a failure. On a trip to Germany, Ruth found exactly what she had imagined: a doll called the Lilli doll. Ruth didn't realize that Lilli was based on a prostitute in a cartoon, and had been created as a toy for adults. She bought three Lilli dolls, brought them back to America;Mattel changed the doll's design, and renamed it Barbie (after Ruth's daughter)."

Hmmm.

Joy = Pithy Wit

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor:
She said, "If you were my husband I'd give you poison," and he said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it."

"A modest little person, with much to be modest about." - Winston Churchill

 "I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." - Groucho Marx

tune playing at the moment:

 ...i've never had to knock on wood....
Mighty Mighty Bosstones, "The Impression That I Get" --- fun bouncy tune
take a listen (and a look)

One anonymous reader gave this delightful tidbit:
If you like to make "to do" lists, at the end of the day, change the "o's" to "a's" and
you then have a "ta da" list.

joyfully,

My room here has a patio facing a courtyard - lush and blooming. After many minutes of trying to figure out how to turn on the radio next to my bed, I succeeded and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun came blasting out at me. I danced and spun around to see a hummingbird hovering at my patio door. Hummingbirds just want to have fun too.
