How to Create Life Balance, Tip #3
Tip #3: Look at What's Really Important to You

After looking at your schedule (last month's feature article) consider what you are prioritizing.
  • Is it what's really important to you? Are your values reflected in your schedule?
WHO you are is the springboard for WHAT you DO and ultimately WHAT you'll HAVE in your life.
  • Make sure to focus your time on things that matter to you and reflect your values.
Bottom Line: You can have 20 things on your to-do list for the day and get all of them done and still not feel a sense of accomplishment or balance. Why? If none of that stuff is connected to what matters to you then who cares how much stuff you got done?

Spotlight:
Escondido Humane SocietyAbigail R. Kouzi
Development Director,
Escondido Humane Society
Years with the Escondido Humane Society (EHS)?
I have been Development Director at the Escondido Humane Society for three and a half years. I relocated to San Diego from Pittsburgh, PA, where I worked in development at my alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh.

Community support is critical because...
It's our own community of animal lovers who allow the Escondido Humane Society to care for animals each and every day. The Escondido Humane Society is a private, independent shelter - we don't receive funding from organizations like the HSUS, the ASPCA, or SDHS.

I often hear from people that they wish they could do more. I understand that sentiment - I share it myself - the plight of animal suffering can be overwhelming. But everyone can do something. I bet most of your readers can make a gift of, say, $10. I can take that $10 and give a vaccine to a puppy to protect them from parvovirus and distemper, or buy enough water for an entire run of kennels plus a few baths, or buy a large bag of healthy food. And that's making life a whole lot better for those animals. We may not be able to change the world, but everyone can change the world for one animal.

Upcoming events?
Paws in the Park on March 28th in Kit Carson Park
is our largest event of the year, and it's always a blast! Paws in the Park raises awareness and funding for animals in need while celebrating those special pets in our lives.

Our event highlights include a 1.5 or 2.5 mile walk, Paw Vendor Expo, entertainment, food, games, and contests for your entire family, including a "K-9's Got Talent" show and Wet T-shirt Contest (don't worry, it's for the dogs - Paws in the Park is family-friendly event). We have loads of activities for families and dogs, so join us for a fun morning for a great cause. Registration is open now at www.escondidohumanesociety.org.

Special foster opportunity: This is Peanut, a special needsSpecial Adoptable Dog Peanut puppy who is looking for a foster family. Peanut was abandoned at our local Dollar Tree Store. She is sweet, playful, and loves to hang out with her people. She has a birth defect of the esophagus that may not be survivalable in the long term, but we hope to give her as many happy days as possible. Please contact the Humane Society at (760) 888-2275.
