Spotlight: Get Your Stuff and Your Life Organized |

I recently sat down with Lisa Whalen, Owner of Whalen Organizing and Consulting. She offered up some insightful and helpful experiences and tips when it comes to getting our space organized:
What do you find that people have challenges with most when it comes to being organized?
Getting rid of things! Many people don't realize that the reason they haven't gotten to getting rid of things is that they simply are not scheduling time to do it. Schedule "purging sessions" so they get done and you keep your workspace or living area free of clutter or extra boxes.
What are a few simple ideas for how we can get our space better organized so it actually facilitates our work or home life? (e.g. home office, work office, living room, bathroom)
- Create simple solutions. It doesn't have to be complicated to work well for you.
- Make your space your own. Include things that you enjoy or reflect who you are- a favorite photograph framed, a container or two of collectibles on your bookcase.
- If you own a business, keep personal and business files separate.
- Whether at home office or work, at the end of your work day, get your supplies and files out that you will need the next day so you have them ready to go in the morning.
- If you network a lot you may invest in a business card scanner to minimize card pile up or data entry overload.
- Have fun! Use color and fun tools that are also functional, like bright colored paper boxes, CD holders, etc.
