Greetings!
You may have already heard the news that I am leaving my position after two years as Cincinnati's Economic Development Director, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our public and private development partners. Together, we have realized amazing accomplishments through the efforts of great companies within our City, and - most of all - the very talented and energetic staff in the Economic Development Division, City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr., Mayor Mark Mallory and our City Council . Even though this has been a time of economic downturn nationally and globally, Cincinnati has been very fortunate to realize some very notable projects in terms of substantial new jobs being created and capital investment being made. In the past two years, we have announced the creation of more than 3,500 new jobs in our City by companies that our Economic Development Division directly assisted, including Medpace, Humana, dunnhumby, FirstGroup, Macy's, Kendle and Kao Brands. We have also committed to creating new investment and expansion opportunities throughout the City for our locally-headquartered companies, including providing Tax Increment Fund (TIF) bond financing assistance for the construction of Great American Tower at Queen City Square, the newest headquarters addition to our skyline now under construction for American Financial Group/Great American Insurance; as well as Economic Development (ED) bond financing for the construction of Graeter's new ice cream production facility to open in January 2010 in Bond Hill - which will make our City's favorite hometown ice cream available nationwide.
There is a lot to be thankful for and I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of all of the excitement within the City of Cincinnati. The work that the City's Economic Development Division is doing, and the positive momentum we have built with our partners, will certainly continue. I believe that our City is strong economically, and - despite current economic trends to the contrary - will continue to do well and prosper in the years to come.
To spearhead the City's continued efforts, I am pleased to announce that the City Manager has named Patrick Ewing as Interim Director of the Economic Development Division. Patrick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working within City Hall and partnering with the Cincinnati business community and will be a great leader for the City EDD team.
Very best wishes,
Holly Childs, Economic Development Division Director |
American Red Cross breaks ground on a new headquarters
Project news from Jeff McElravy
|
Earlier this month, the Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross broke ground on a new headquarters and disaster operations center at Keystone Parke. Each year, the chapter serves 200,000 people in sixteen counties. This facility will allow them to do so more effectively through state of the art communications systems, indoor truck loading, and a customized layout designed to accommodate training, drills, and disaster response. The new building will be three stories, 50,000 square feet, and LEED-Silver certified. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010. EDD and the Parks Department worked with the chapter on a series of easements, property transfers, and zone changes to accommodate the project. Congratulations to the Red Cross on reaching this important milestone!
