Cats Need Veterinary Care Too...

. . . According to Dr. Jim Humphries of the Veterinary News Network, "There are more than 80 million cats in US households and experts have concluded that felines are 30% less likely to visit a veterinarian than dogs."
It isn't hard to come up with reasons why this is. Cats are more Two cats in bedindependent than dogs, they hide symptoms more than dogs and certainly, they're more of a challenge when it comes to transporting them to the vet's office!
But cats need medical attention for all the same reasons that their canine counterparts do and, one could argue, they need that attention even more. If the assumption that cats hide their pain and symptoms is true then all the more reason to get them in for regular examinations to see what they're hiding.
"The unfortunate result out of all of this is that when veterinarians do see cats, they are often faced with advanced problems that are more costly and difficult to treat.  Extensive kidney disease, uncontrolled diabetes and even widespread parasites top the list of feline issues. One study published showed that flea infestations in cats have increased by 12% in the last five years and ear infections are up more than 34%!", says Dr. Humphries.
Cat owners who find it daunting to get their felines to the vet hospital might find this handout, "Getting Your Cat to the Veterinarian" helpful.
Arroyo also offers a housecall service to those who are not able to transport their pets - especially cats - or to those who lack a means of transportation.
