Think about it...
(BOLD Duluth, Minnesota, 2008)
And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Dear BOLD Friends,
The time is now to blossom.
Don't let the economy stop you. It sure isn't stopping over twenty communities from being BOLD this year! In fact, now more than ever is a golden opportunity to make change in maternity care happen. Now more than ever is the time for pregnant women to take back childbirth. And now more than EVER - in the age of aquarius - we need to keep speaking the truth about childbirth and showing all people that childbirth is an opportunity for transformation. We can turn the tide!
Winnipeg, Minnesota, San Diego, New York and many other BOLD locations are popping up all over the map.
I invite you to be a BOLD change-maker in childbirth.
- Karen Brody BOLD founder, playwright of Birth, mother of two
PS: Last week I got to see 8 month old Skylar Dawn, whose birth I attended last year. What a cutie!

How is BOLD 2009 Pushing Outside the Choir?
This year's BOLD organizers are being encouraged to embrace our organizers' theme "Pushing Outside the Choir." We thought we'd share with you a few BOLD organizer responses to "what community of people will you reach out to?":
BOLD Fort Collins, Colorado: to our
local university students
BOLD Austria: to migrants and foreigners because they don't have enough access to satisfying information
BOLD Bermuda: to the insurance company executives (Bermuda is
teaming with them) and to the teenager mothers and
lower income mothers receiving care at our clinic
BOLD Gainesville: We want to do another campus performance.
Last year we did a mini-show to about 500 college students at University of Flordia/ Gainesville and it was very eye
opening to see and hear their reactions. We also hope to do a performance
in a rural, lower income community that has a high teen pregnancy rate.

The White Ribbon Alliance recently launched two exciting campaign: Mothers Day Every Day and Million Mums. Mothers Day Every Day is raising awareness and calling for
greater U.S. leadership to strengthen health systems and increase
skilled health workers in communities where women die for lack of care. The Million Mumscampaign, based in the UK, aims to sign up a million people and raise a million pounds to help prevent women from dying needlessly in pregnancy and childbirth. Click on their links and check them out.

BOLD thoughts from a BOLD woman

If you haven't heard of Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa you don't know what you're missing. Karen recently blogged about her hoping that more people, especially pregnant women, notice this incredible woman's words and life's work. Be sure to read a copy of her childbirth book, "Bountiful, Beautiful, Blissful: Experience the Natural Power of Pregnancy and Birth with Kundalini Yoga and Meditation".
