I recently reconnected with an ex-boyfriend on Facebook. (don't worry I have told my hubby all about this) After 17 years of no communication it was really wonderful to catch up. I never knew if he was dead or alive so it was nice to find out he was still living!!
What I was surprised with was that along with some great memories, it brought up some pretty deep feelings. Feelings that I thought were long gone. Where were these coming from? How can feelings that I had 17 years ago still be there? Are they even real? It didn't make sense. I am very happily married so I wasn't looking for someone to fill a void.
What I realized was that these feelings were still here. I had never fully processed the emotions all those years ago. Our break up was very difficult for me. It was one of the first times I followed my intuition. (although I didn't know that's what it was.)
It was so strong that I honestly had no choice. I just woke up one day and knew I had to end it. The "knowing" was so deep and so strong, that I felt something else had taken control of me. On an ego level I didn't want to let him go. I was an unconscious co-dependent and was certain he couldn't manage without me. (ridiculous I know!) After I ended it I was in great distress. I was in College at the time so all I did was sleep and study. I kept myself completely distracted so I couldn't feel the pain.
Back then I didn't know anything about allowing my feelings. I just blocked them. Over the years I have done many healings on the issues that he and I had in the relationship, but never on the feelings for him that I buried. And no matter what, buried feelings always come out. Often in illness or some other trauma. In my case - through Facebook! Tee hee!
I am grateful to be conscious enough now to recognize, accept & allow my feelings. Look at them for what they are and let them go. I am also very grateful to have the tools to deal with uncomfortable emotions. (EFT & ThetaHealing)
I truly believe that every person in our life that triggers emotions (good, bad or otherwise) are great teachers for us. He is a great teacher for me - all those years ago and now in my present day. I thank him for his part in my journey.
