November's Designer Kit Release Newsletter
November 01, 2008 |
Hi
The final Scrappin' at the Rock in the current format was held on the past weekend - from all accounts it was a scrap filled weekend - with many layouts being created, lots of new friendships being forged, and a whole lot of fun being had by all concerned.
On Friday night was the usual meet and greet, with a few bottles of Champers being consumed. Lynlee showcased some of the new tools and techniques available in the shop. A demonstration on the new Cuttlebug was given too, with lots of interest from the 30 ladies in attendance.
Lynlee's classes - a layout class on Saturday afternoon, and a card class on Sunday were a huge success, and all attendees very happy with their make and takes.
There was a bus trip, on the brand new school bus only picked up the day before, out to see the shop in its almost completed state, with more champers to toast the new shop!
More champers was comsumed, a meal at the local club, then back to the hall for more scrapping into the wee hours of the night, some even saw 2 am twice, with the commencement of daylight savings.
The only downside to the weekend was the confrontation with a kangaroo whilst taking the last load home after camp... He decided that Marg's car was just in his way!
Now that camp is over everything is being unpacked into the shop - so well worth a trip out there if you are within driving range.
Check out the BLOG for the most current photos.
As we now head into the 'silly season' it is a good reason to start thinking about Christmas Presents. Country Papercraft is the perfect place to start - with lots of Off the Page items to alter, perfect for Grandparents. Gift Vouchers are available also for the person who is so hard to buy for. Give Marg a call, and pop out one day to get organised before it gets too late.
Stay safe 'n' happy scrapping

Welcome to my Scrap Space....
As a new feature we thought that we would ask the Designers to take us of a tour through their scrap spaces....
Today's tour guide is JULIE
Welcome to my scrap room - messy and creative.
I use a old internal door as my desk, as you know we are renovating and I can't decide what to do in here yet and its the perfect size to fit in the space allowed. I have used spice racks on the wall from Bunnings to hold paint and small jars of stuff.
I have used the kids old set of drawers for shelves, the drawer bottoms were busted but the frame was OK, so I put some shelves in - the 3 fitted perfectly along the wall. here I keep 80% of everything.
more of the kids drawers, they really were a fantastic brain wave...LOL
In the plastic folders - $2 from Crazy Clarks - are my Making Memories foam stamps, Versa cube inks, flowers, brads, any embellishment or item I can fit into them.
these coloured boxes are from Smiggles - mmmmmmmm Smiggles - these are full of rub ons, stickers, chipboards - all sorted by alpha, shapes, words
this is my dodgy wall - I have no idea what to do with it yet - but for now it holds all my extra stuff, some stamps, cjs etc....
this is where I sit and play.....
Thanks Julie for taking us on a tour of your scrap space.

In Days of Olde...
Using 'Olde World' papers can be daunting - yet exciting. Olde world papers are perfect for vintage styled layouts with lots of distressing and inking techniques adding extra depth to layouts. To achieve this feel you often need to alter your photos to a sepia tone, which is available in many photo editing programs. The Designers have been having fun going through the tubs of 'olde world' papers available at CPC to create the wonderful "Olde World Vintage" layouts.
BELIEVE - created by Julie
Julie's dream was to have a home with a white picket fence. Her dream was made reality recently when her white picket fence was built by her family. The image of white picket fences are often synonymous with olden day cottages. Julie has depicted this feel by using 'olde world' papers with her sepia toned photos of her fence.
VINTAGE - created by Michelle
Michelle has been busy brushing up on her photography skills, and whilst out walking one day discovered this old bath in the bush. Eager to use this bath she grabbed her daughter and snapped this shot. By altering it to sepia it screamed vintage - so perfect for the 'olde world' papers. Michelle has used 7 Gypsies, TwoBusyMoms papers. She has used Tim Holtz Distress Range of inks, with lots of distressing by tearing, scrunching and using scissors to "rough" up the edges of the papers and cardstock.
CAITLAN - created by Leonie
This photo screamed 'olde world'. The great tones in the picture were perfect for a sepia coloured photo. The muted reds in the layout are just enough colour to catch the eye without drawing away from the tones of the layout. Leonie has used KAISERscrapbook's Olde World range of Papers. |

Designer's Tip - taken from our tour of Julie's Scrap Space
Look around your home for any old furniture as storage - there may be a cupboard that is hiding in the garage or shed that would be perfect for you space. Just like Julie's drawers. |
From Elementary to Extravagant - in 3 easy steps
The Designer's have been busy this month creating a 3 step layout going from an elementary layout to an Extravagant layout.
The first step was to create an elementary layout - using patterned paper, cardstock and a title.
The second step was to add to the elementary layout flowers, ribbons, extra word to the title to take it to an elegant layout.
The final step was to create an Extravagant layout by adding more embellishments, such as buttons, ribbons, blossoms, bling.
In Deb's elementary layout she has used DreamStreets Mod Posy Papers (from the October Kit), Carolee's Creations Foam Alphas and a covered chipboard shape.
For her Elegant layout Deb has used her Fiskar's Threading Water punch on the edge of her patterned paper, added a second word to the title and another covered chipboard shape.
REEBOK SPIKES - created by Deb
The final step of Deb's layout sees her adding further chipboard shapes, rub-ons and extra ribbons.
Leonie has created her elementary layout using 2 pieces of cardstock, 2 pieces of patterned paper and Lil Davis chipboard alpha.
By adding patterned papers (the reverse side of the originals), a page from a book, stamping on her title, the stamped heart, ribbons, blossoms and alphabet stickers, Leonie has taken her page from very simple to Elegant.
WALK - created by Leonie
In this final step Leonie went crazy with buttons, blossoms, lace and ink. She also added some doodling around the edge of her layout and some cut out butterflies using the Cuttlebug. Absolutely Extravagant!
Michelle has used 1 cardstock, 3 pieces of WR patterned paper and created the blossom by layering flowers cut out of one of the sheets of patterned paper, a line of machine stitching, lots of distressing and pinecone ink.
In this layout Michelle has added more cut outs from the patterned paper, Green Tara Blossoms, KAISERcraft Rhinestones and Pearls, and a border using Fiskar's Threading Water Punch.
{Rusty, the} TIN DOG - created by Michelle
In her Extravagant layout Michelle has added further stitching, more layered flowers using the patterned paper, and Green Tara Blossoms, she has also stamped using Fancy Pants clear stamps, added a journalling block and finished off the title using Carolee's Creations Tiny Alpha Stickers. Michelle has also added some hand made flowers, which are simply circles punched with 1" circle punch then cut into 8 without cutting through to the centre, then layered and folding each petal to give the flowers some shape.
Lynlee's elementary layout features simply on the photos - the great design of patterned paper and cardstock allows the focus to stay on the photos.
By adding a second title using Heidi Swapp Plastic Alphas and the floral bursts and ribbon trim, Lynlee has brought out the colours of her daughter's bathers and the blue in the ocean photo.
SNORKEL FUN - created by Lynlee
Lynlee's Extravagant layout includes more floral bursts, doodling, flourishes, buttons, stamps, rub-ons and alpha stickers to all come together as a fun bright summery layout. |

1 little, 2 little, 3 little Indians...
Having photos of ourselves taken can be one of the most daunting things. But by taking photos of yourself, self portraits, you can be in control of the situation and you will find that you are happier with the results. This month the Designer's were asked to do just that. Take a self portrait and to scrap it using Sassafrass Lass' Indian Summer range of papers.
I am sure after seeing the results you will be encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and take a self portrait.
{there's nuth'n} SWEET {about me} - created by Michelle
Michelle has also used a mix of Carolee's Creations Tiny Alpha Stickers, Heidi Swapp Ghost Alphas, that have been put through the cuttlebug and edged with Making Memories paint, to create her title. She has covered chipboard shapes from Collections and Plain Jane to add to her layout. Michelle also uses EK's Giant Retro Daisy and Retro Daisy punches to create the flower bursts, along with KAISERcraft's pearls.
DEB {Always Tired} - created by Deb
Deb has added Carolee's Creations Foam Alphas, and Tiny Alpha Stickers, along with KAISERcraft Pearls and Rhinestones. She has used her black Zig Writer to doodle around the edge of her papers to give the look of stitching. Using KAISERcrafts new Doodle Shaped Clear stamps she has highlighted the look of tiredness in her face. (We still think you look gorgeous Deb!)
FABULOUS - created by Julie
Yes Julie, we think you look Fabulous too! Julie wanted to create a layout with her new 'do'. She has added to her layout Heidi Swap Chipboard shapes and bookplates.
IT'S JUST ME - created by Leonie
Leonie's photo is so appealling, I am not sure whether it is her perspective of herself, just highlighting the features of her face, peeking into the frame of the photo, or the added reflection of light from the stained glass window in the background. It's a great photo Leonie. Leonie has added to her layout Heidi Swapp and Green Tara Blossoms, ribbons and using her punches to create her borders.
{I am nobody else but} ME - created by Lynlee
Lynlee has used lots of stamping, and ink - her two favourites, by using the large M on her page, Lynlee brings the focus of the layout straight to her picture.
Taking self portraits is quite simple, especially with a digital camera - because you have to power to delete and start again. It is all a matter of practice knowing where to take your photo from to make sure you are in the frame of your photo. So go on - get out your camera and start snapping away at photos of YOU! | |
