Challenge The Designers
Clear as Day
Time after Time
Hi

Holidays are here - for most of the children in Australia - presenting  a great opportunity to get outdoors armed with your camera to take some new scrapping material.

Over in the FORUM we are running a little PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE - teaching the forum users how to get the most out of their cameras.  So why not pop on over and pick up a few handy tips and hints.  We are even having challenges posted to make the most of these photos we take.

There is one great joy about owning a digital camera - the fact that you can use the delete button and take as many photos as you can get your subject to sit still for.  All in an effort to get those few perfect shots.

And now that you have gotten all those wonderful activity, holiday snaps - why not check out all the new stock arriving weekly in store - and the fantastic layouts that the Designers have created as inspiration, especially the funky new October kit - on sale today for a limited time only... Only limited numbers of kits are being made up - so if they sell out you miss out.

Why not upload your kit entries to the gallery for a chance to win the next month's Designer Kit for free.  Hey it doesn't hurt does it?  The kits are packed with everything you need to create at least 3 layouts.  Speaking of kits - keep your eye out for some new improvements to the kit in the beginning of the year.... (sssshhhhhh, it's a secret!)

Zarah, who recently created a sketch just for us here at Country Papercraft, also just held a sketch challenge competition on her BLOG.  All the designer's thought they would create a layout for the sketch.  So why not pop on over to have a look.  Zarah's sketches are absolutely awesome - and a fave site with all the Designers.

Until next time - enjoy your holiday time - if you are lucky enough to have them - and enjoy your camera!

Stay safe 'n' happy scrapping

Ask the Designer....

This month's Designer in Focus is Julie Hancock....

Parky asks: I would like to know when you're not scrapping what do you like to do in your SPARE time ?

***    I love to garden, I am in the middle of creating a cottage garden in my front yard complete with white picket fence. I have about 500 bulbs planted, hopefully,  in a couple of years, it will look stunning.

Barbie asks: Julie what 6 things wouldn't you be without when scrapping?

***   Gee this one is nice and easy, craft mat  - its a big sucker, covers the whole desk - Zision trimmer, it needs some new blades, scrap dots, (best glue ever - I tend not to use Dimensional Magic much any more), a bag of goodies, I don't put things away, I put any left over bits in a bag and it sits on my desk for random bits that I need, music, (Ray often sits at the desk beside me and plays music) that's only 5 - can't think of any more.

Kris asks: Aside from your road trips, what do you love doing most with your boys!!! Can be different for each boy , or collectively?

***   Taking them to school.... Putting them to bed...
Oh, you want me to be serious?  I enjoy watching them play sport, love summer afternoons, when we muck around in the yard with the dogs, kids and Ray play and I take pics.... I love cooking with Cameron - we do lots of baking in the winter months. Matt and I enjoy our music and we both have a warped sense of humour. Corey and I love laying in the yard watching the clouds. I love just being silly with them, love watching them be silly too - life is too serious sometimes - we all need to chill every now and then.

Robyn asks: Julie, where is your favourite place to go to be inspired to scrap a part from here?

***   In all honesty - no where in particular. I may look at a couple of mags - don't subscribe to any of them any more, I may troll a few blogs (online diaries) every now and then  - if I like something I save it, I don't take any notice of whose it is or where it's from - I figure by the time I have finished with it  - it will look nothing like what it was  - so I simply don't take any notice.

Mrs Frizz asks: How often do you really get the chance to scrap - say how many hours in total a week?
How long does it take for you to whip up a fantabulous layout

***  I am lucky to have my own scrap room - so it's always set up ready for me to walk in and scrap. But I mostly chat on MSN more than I scrap....LOL. I would say I scrap maybe 4 times a week. I go to my LSS for a crop day at least once a month  - I try and make it twice  a month. Not sure how many hours all up  - maybe around 15 hours - that's a rough guess. How long?  - well never very long...LOL I just keep putting stuff on .... never more than an hour....

Susan asks: My question - what have been your biggest influences on your scrapping style?

***   No idea - not sure if I even have a style - I like to scrap real pics - not into set up  - or posed shots  - life is not like that so neither is my scrapping. I think I tend to suck a little bit of every one around me at the time.

Deb asks:   If you could scrap with anybody at all, which 5 people would you choose to scrap with?

***  Oh man talk about a tough one for last..  Ok I would love to scrap with Donna Downey - did a class with her and she rawked !- so very very funny.  I could handle more time with her.
Tim Holtz - oh man what more do I say - he would be awesome!!!!!
Nic Howard - I think because she is from NZ, her scrapping is something I can relate to. CPC DT  - Of course!

Thanks Julie, for taking some time out of your busy schedule to let us get to know you a little more.

Keep your eye out in the Forum for the next Designer to be put on the GRILL!

Designer's Tip - because we are doing a photography challenge - here's a photography tip!

Sometimes a change can result in much better photos from your camera! This one is simple, but if you don't think about it, you'll be surprised about what you've been missing!

Want to take pictures of tall statues, buildings, trees, or other tall structures, yet you can't seem to get the whole subject in the picture? Turn your digital camera 90 degrees to the side, then focus on your subject and snap the image.

Suddenly those tall things that couldn't fit in the camera's screen before may fit perfectly now. And don't stop with turning your digital camera 90 degrees - experiment with other orientations!
Clear as Day

This edition we have been challenging ourselves to pull out our transparencies.

Yes, we have all bought them with the intention of using them, but how many of us have them in the back of our scrap stash not sure how to use them?

Check out the Designer's use of all things clear.

SISTERS BY CHANCE - created by Julie

Julie has used the new Basic Grey Offbeat Range.  She has stamped onto a piece of clear transparency with black Staz-on ink.

YOU 3 {rock my world}  - created by Lynlee

Lynlee has used Basic Grey's Periphery Range.  Lynlee has also stamped onto transparency - including the script print behind the metal book plate, and the frame and flourish over the photo.

{definately} SUNKIST - create by Michelle

Michelle has used a Fancy Pants Glitter Flourish and Heidi Swapp Ghost Alphas (which she has embossed using the Cuttlebug) as her clear items on her layout.

TURNING NINE - created by Leonie

Leonie used a Hambly Transparency to frame Kloe's face to keep the focus on her, and how much she has grown.  Leonie uses Basic Grey's Ambrosia on her layout, including letters and butterfly diecuts.

Timelines play an important role in scrapbooking our history.  This month the Designer's were asked to scrap layouts that include a timeline about an important part of their life.

SIGNS OF A ROAD TRIP 2008 - created by Julie

Julie cleverly took photos of the places she visited whilst on her recent road trip with her family.  This created an excellent timeline showing the exact places and times that they visited on their journey.

Julie uses the new BASIC GREY OFFBEAT on her layout.

WHERE HAS MY BABY GONE? - created by Leonie

Using photos of a timeline is the perfect way to show how much a child has grown over a time period.
