September's Designer Kit Release Newsletter
September 01, 2008 |
Hi
Spring has sprung!
September is one of my favourite times of the year - everywhere I look there a paddocks of bright green crops, white flowers of the lupins, and the brilliant yellow of the canola crops - the smell is horrid! It is also the worst time of the year for hayfever sufferers - all that pollen in the air - causing itchy eyes, runny noses, and stuffy heads - just the pits. A perfectly good reason to stay indoors and scrap!
The progress of the shop is going ahead in leaps and bounds - with all the work being done on the inside - loads of scraping off walls and applying fresh coats of paint.
Marg is off up north shortly to teach classes at Pannawonica - in the West's far north - so if you are from that area and haven't already booked into the classes - what are you waiting for?
Scrapping at the Rock is only 7 or 8 weeks away. Have you secured your place for the weekend? If not contact Marg for details or bookings.
The Olympics are now over, didn't our Aussies do us proud! Have you checked out all the Scrap Olympic challenge layouts in the Gallery? WOWSERS!!!! Some awesome pieces of work was posted over the 16 days of the Olympic Challenges! Congratulations to all our medal winners!!!!
Lots of new products being uploaded regularly instore - so why not check them out - there might just be something there that you NEED or HAVE TO HAVE!!!
Stay safe 'n' happy scrapping

Designer's Tip
To colour chipboard in dual tones, using a versacolour ink pad (the little cubes) and ink the top half of the chipboard and then use a different colour and ink the bottom half. Whilst it is still wet - blend together with your finger or cotton bud, or tissue which is what I used, so that you cant see definate lines, unless you want them :) I used the versamagic chalk ink actually, but I dont think staz on will work too well because it dries too quickly. After you have inked and blended you can add glitter or kindyglitz or DM, or anything to cover it if you want.

We were so very privileged to have ZARAH from http://inspirascrap.blogspot.com/
create a monthly sketch for us to use as our monthly challenge. We couldn't resist the wait so we had to scrap with this fantastic sketch. Using the Theme of Spring - these are what the Designers created with the Sketch.
Thank you Zarah for creating this BRILLIANT sketch exclusively for Country Papercraft.
SPRING BABY - created by Deb
Deb has used KAISERscrapbooking Cocco Range, Green Tara Blossoms & KAISERcraft Bling.
THINK SPRING - create by Leonie
Leonie wanted to capture the feeling of spring with these photos of Kloe, using Crate Paper's Kaitlin range, Butterfly Stamp and Heidi Swapp Lettering
CASH CROP - created by Michelle
Michelle has used DreamStreet's Art Nouveau range of Papers, KAISERcraft Bling, RF Clear Stamps, Ghost Letters (which have been embossed using the Cuttlebug) to create her spring layout.
SPRING HAS SPRUNG - created by Lynlee
Lynlee has some gorgeous spring flowers beautifully displayed using this sketch. She uses Sassafrass Lass Papers, AC Foam Thickers, MM alphabet Stickers, KAISERcraft Bling on her layout. |
SCRAP OLYMPICS
Now that the SCRAP OLYMPICS have finished and the medal presentations are all over, the Designer's thought they would choose one layout each that caught their eye. It was really hard to narrow it down to one layout each, but here are the ones they came up with, and the reasons why.
HOT AUSSIE SUN - Bramblebabe
Marg chose Bramblebabe's Day 1 Layout - to create a layout using green/gold or red/white/blue combinations - as her eyecatching layout. Marg gives her reason as the stunning colours, fantastic design, great photo, and swears it is almost 3D.
PHUKET - Kris
Deb chose Kris' Day 4 Layout - to create a layout about an animal & have more than 4 photos - as the layout that caught her eye. She says Kris' ability to think outside the square, by cutting the single photos to give the effect of multiple photos was just brilliant. She also loved the distressing on the layout, and the minimalistic use of embellishments to keep the focus on the photos.
BEAUTIFUL - Mrs Frizz
Leonie chose this Day 6 Layout - that required Olympians to create a Girly themed layout, no blue allowed, had to contain ribbons and 4 photos - created by Mrs Frizz. Leonie says the simplicity of the design, and the repetition of the same photo made the layout 'jump off the screen' at her. She also loved the crochet circles, and tulle used to represent flowers, and the stamping just threw the layout over the edge as Leonie's eyecatcher!
A DAY IN HOSPITAL - Scrapcat
Michelle chose Scrapcat's Day 5 Challenge - Olympic Ring Challenge, to create a monochromatic blue layout, that contained more than 3 photos and a circle - as her eyecatching layout. She says that the great use of white space, the minimalistic use of embellishments allows the focus to remain on the photos, and let them tell the story.
DRATS - Bramblebabe
Lynlee's eyecatching layout choice was from Day 9 of the Scrap Olympics - another Olympic Ring Challenge, to create a monochromatic Red layout, that had at least 3 photos and a journal block. Lynlee said this layout caught her eye because of the dramatic red colouring, and the fabulous photos of the cats, she feels that although the background of the photos is a little busy, the mainly black and white photos jump off the page. She also loves the little story going on through the layout.
Thank-you to all who participated in the Scrap Olympics - your layouts were all fantastic - and how you all managed to keep up was amazing, I know there were many chaotic scrap spaces after 16 days of competition. Thanks to our Designer Julie - for setting all the challenges (yes, you can blame her for the huge amount of photos that you had to use on layouts - ie 10 or more).
Stay tuned in the forum for the next exciting competition/challenges coming up soon.
