August's Designer Kit Release Newsletter
August 01, 2008 |
Hi
Greetings and Salutations to you all.
Wow, it's August already - where is the year going to. Someone told me recently the reason the years go faster as you get older is a matter of fractions. When you are ten years old a year is 1/10th of your life - so of course it takes longer to get through - but as you reach middle age around the 40 year mark a year becomes 1/40th of your life - see a lot smaller! It's a really scary thought isn't it. So when we all reach our octogenerian years 1 year will be 1/80th of your life - the year will be gone in a flash!
Okay back on to the matters at hand.
Technology is a fantastic thing - when it works it is brilliant - when it's not it is a nightmare! Computer problems have plagued Country Papercraft's online business over the past month. First the online shop being down for near on a month, then the forum had been having a lot of down time - which resulted in us seeking a new forum. This new forum wouldn't have come about without the fantastic support that we recieved from one of our regular users who is a whiz on the computer. The amount of time that she has put in over the past few weeks setting up the new forum, as well as working full time, is a credit to her! We are blessed and lucky to have someone so willing to help us with all this technology. Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts Susan, for all the time and effort you have given in setting up the new forum. You have nurtured our new baby and helped it blossom in the buzzing community that it is becoming. There are not enough words that we could use to show you our true gratitude!
So why not pop on over to the new FORUM, unfortunately we lost all the chatter from the old forum, but we have carried over the 'important' stuff. If you were previously registered at the old forum you will have to re-register at the new one, which is unfortunate, but unable to be avoided. Look forward to catching up with you over there.
Stay safe 'n' happy scrapping

Good ol' baking paper has many purposes.
Scrapbooking is just another use. Try these suggestions.
* Haven't got the correct colour alphabet stickers? Using a sticker alphabet of any colour - simply place the required letters onto a sheet of baking paper, lightly sand the stickers then using paint, ink, or similar medium to change the stickers to suit your layout. By placing the stickers on baking paper you will find they peel straight off once dried.
* Baking paper is also brilliant for when you are creating your titles or journalling with stickers. Place the bottom of the letters onto the top edge of a piece of baking paper. You then simply then place your created title wherever it is to go on your layout then stick the top half of the stickers down. Gently securing the stickers, lift the baking paper up towards the top of your letters to peel them off the sheet of baking paper. Perfectly straight titles and journalling.

This month the Designer's wanted to create layouts using Basic Grey's ranges of papers, embellishments, rub-ons, chipboard. Their challenge was to use a black and white photo with the Basic Grey products.
MR RIGHT - created by Lynlee
Lynlee has used Basic Grey's Infuse, Euphoria, Two Scoops, Aged & Confused ranges of paper. These have all blended together beautifully to created this gorgeous layout.
BOTTOMS UP - created by Leonie
What a fun photo - taken from a completely different perspective! Leonie has used Basic Grey's Boxer papers, rub-ons from the Periphery range, lettering from Lily Kate range and brads from the Two Scoops Range.
BED HAIR - created by Michelle
Michelle's daughter has the most uncontrollable curly hair and each morning she wakes up looking like the has been a party of rats happening in her locks. Michelle has used the Mellow range from the Basic Grey Papers, including the alphabet stickers and die cuts, also used are various flourish, border and girl themed rub-ons from Basic Grey Wholly Cow Transfers.
MY GUY - created by Deb
Deb has used Basic Grey's Periphery Range, including die cuts and alphabet stickers to create this beautiful layout of her husband.

ASK THE DESIGNERS
We thought this month we would start a feature on each of the Designers. In the FORUM we have started a section for you to ask questions of our Designer of the month. This month it is Marg's turn...
Here is more that you wanted to know about Marg.
Marg is the owner of Country Papercraft, having purchased the contents of the shop from who good friend who was moving on to bigger and better things. Over tha past 3 years Marg has built the business from a small room in her house, to overtaking her house, and now is building a new store near her home. (the updated photos of the shop building are on the Country Papercraft Blog )
Kris: Marg, when you're not scrapping, working at the shop or working on the farm, what do you like to do with your 'down time'? What book are you reading at the moment (if you have time)?
Marg: I Love a good movie or book, although I try not to read though as I get so engrossed in the book and I cannot leave it alone, but I am reading "This Charming Man- by Marian Keys" when I go to bed at night, for half an hour.
***
Deb H: What is your favourite scrapping product?
Marg: That is an easy one. I love my blade, it would be the first thing I pack to go away scrapping, then my 12 inch cutter & inks.
***
Parky: Do you ever have time to SCRAP your own photos with all the work for the shop, farm, family and teaching classes? If yoiu weren't the fantastic owner of CPC what would you be doing for a career?
Marg: Not as often as I would like. I pinched one of Barbie's photos to scrap the other day - {Bring on some Grandies for me - okay maybe will wait a few more years}. Not sure about the career path. I wasn't looking for anything when this opportunity came along
***
Barbie: List 5 things you couldn't scrap without.
Marg: Blade, double-sided tape, 12" cutter, inks, stamps, cutting mat. There are so many more things, limiting it to just 5 is a bit hard. What about the cuttlebug, curvy cutter, glue dots, glossy accents, the list goes on and on and on.
***
Tassie Deb: What made you buy CPC from the previous owner, and do you have any regrets?
Marg: It was Neil's (DH) idea really, I was selling off bits that were left from the business after Sharon left Bruce Rock, and was always having to ask her to order in extra bits for people, so it just went from there. No regrets at all, well there won't be once we have moved the products out to the new shop, and out of my home.
***
Robyn: What is the best thing about having a scrapping store? Has the business made a big difference to your family and how? Did you find you had to give up something because of the business {eg through the lack of time}?
Marg: The best thing about having a store is getting to see and play with all the new products, but what tops the list is the forum and gallery. Getting to know all my customers on a *personal* level and seeing the fantastic work created with the products I have sold. I don't think that having the shop has made a big difference to the family, other than we now have no room in our house. The only thing that I have given up because of the business is food shopping ... LOL ... well you would think so if you looked in my cupboards.
***
Mrs Frizz: When new products come in, how much of it do you 'have to have' and you find it makes it way to your stash rather than the shelves.
Marg: I surprise myself, and don't put anything away myself straight away, but when I am looking for something I will now go and get it from the new goodies rather than from my stash. Barbie is so right when she says I only use what I need for the job at hand, and that I HATE waste.
***
Julie: What are some of your favourite products?
Marg: I am loving the new Kaiser products, totally love ribbons, flowers and bling. The DreamStreet Papers are to die for. Olde World charms, papers etc always catch my eye too.
Well, now we have gotten to know Marg a little better, thanks for you questions. |

Bugs, beetles, creepy crawlies....
This month the Designers have roadtested the CUTTLEBUG!
The Cuttlebug is awesome! It has the capability of accepting all the dies from the other cutting machines as well as the introduction of the embossing folders.
Just check out what the Designers have been doing with their Cuttlebugs.
Butterfly Notelets - created by Leonie
Using the embossing folders, Leonie has created this gorgeous set of butterfly notelets. The butterflies were created by using a cutting die with the Cuttlebug, then an embossing folder.
1947 MODEL - created by Deb
Deb has used the Cuttlebug on both the cardstock behind the photo and the foam Thickers alphabet.
SUCH FUN - created by Lynlee
Lynlee has put the patterned paper through the Cuttlebug embossing folder and then inked the raised embossing. She has done the same with the chipboard 'fun' and the heart.
CONGRATULATIONS CARD - created by Marg
Marg has use the Cuttlebug embossing folders to create the swirls to match the patterned paper on this beautiful card.
LOVE CARD - created by Marg
Using the floral embossing folder Marg has created this beautiful feature to her card. | |
