Notes from the Prez:
MARGARITA RIDE: The Margarita ride was such a success last week and Steve is back in town and ready to do it again this week! Please
note the earlier start time 5:15 pm at Serrano's. It's getting dark
earlier and earlier so we need to get an early start to get back before
darkness descends. So join our favorite gator ride leader and get out
there and have some fun!
RIDES TIMES: Please note that as of September 1st we will move the weekday rides back first
to 5:30 pm and then as September progresses, back a little earlier. Please watch the calendar on the website for updated information. Saturday rides
continue at Bicycle Village leaving sharply at 9:30 am.
Remember
September is one of the best riding months in regards to nice weather so
take advantage and get out there and RIDE!
BICYCLE VILLAGE DISCOUNTS: Bicycle Village is honoring your Boulder Cycling Club membership
even if you have not received a card. Simply tell them at the cash
register that you are a member and you will receive your discounts.
WINSTON'S CORNER: Winston, our man from the Chris Carmichael Coaching
Company, continues to give us great information on cycling related
topics. See his Winston's Corner in the newsletter. Also, coming up in
November they will be a featured speaker at our meeting at REI. Winston
often joins us on the Tuesday night ride and is great for giving cycling related tips and advice. Thanks Winston!
Keep Riding!

Club's Buff Classic Training Rides
Well, it's September so it must
mean it's time for the CU Buffalo Bike Classic. Many of our members have
expressed an interest in riding in it this year so club member Tom
Allison (The man on the yellow LeMond) has agreed to lead a training
ride on Sunday September 5 leaving from Amante's in North Boulder. We
would like to do 2 groups and A and B but we need a B group
leader----anyone interested please contact donald@bouldercyclingclub.com.

We will leave Amante at 8 am.
North on 36 to Neva/Niwot, then Niwot to 73rd/75th. A and B group which
meet at the top of the lake near the marina. The A group would approach
the marina from the north side and do the steep climb. The B group will
come up from the south side and meet up. A group will come back via
Lefthand/Olde Stage. Hopefully A and B groups finish at roughly the same
time at Amante for an after-ride snack.

Winston's Corner: Proper Clothing/Outerwear
Editors note: We like to thank Winston from Carmichael Training Systems becoming
one of our newest sponsors and providing great information on a variety
of cycling related information
Wearing
a cotton T-shirt is a bad idea, sports fabrics are designed to act as a second
layer of skin and protect you from harsh environments. Cotton can cause unnecessary chaffing, and
hold perspiration which will dramatically affect your ability to
thermo-regulate. Polypropylene, spandex,
and athletic fabrics are engineered to prevent irritation, facilitate moisture
wicking, and protect you from the sun's harmful UV rays. These fabrics are
designed to be worn directly against the skin. Wearing underwear under your chamois or spandex will defeat the purpose,
so don't do it. Modular layers are best
so you can adapt to changing conditions. We suggest a quality product like
Giordana for your athletic apparel. They're an industry leader in active wear and have the experience and
technology to design exactly what your lifestyle demands. Eye protection and a helmet are a must for
any cyclist battling the elements. Smith optics and Lazer helmets are prominent
in the pro peloton, proof enough of their ability to stand up to the demands of
the world's best. Smith offers a variety
of lens colors to match light conditions. Use a lighter color lens to brighten up a hazy or foggy day, or a
color-adapting photochromatic lense to do make the change for you. Gloves are also an essential piece of
equipment. They prevent blisters, and
give you a better grip on the bars when your hands get sweaty. Invest in quality cycling clothing and
outerwear, you'll become a believer after one ride. Ride On, Winston Sauber BS, USAC, CSCS Carmichael Training Systems
